Default Sierra Cosworth RS

I have a problem with the fuel-pump not kicking in when starting. The car is a Sierra Cosworth RS 1987. I know that the fuel-pump is good and works when putting 12v directly to it. Any help appreciated.

Is the immobiliser disarmed?

If yes, then the first place to start is to verify the relay is ok (by ECU on passenger side of dash)

Have you checked the switch under the spare wheel?

There is no switch anywhere under the spare wheel. Maybe you are thinking of a different model or car. Thank you for your reply

3drs don't have the fuel cut off switch like the Sapphires
If the relays and fuses are ok, and there still not 12v at the pump then it could be the fuel pump loom. I had to replace mine due to low voltage at the pump

I think you're right.... Only had 0.5 volt on the pump with ignition turned on. Will trace cables and have a look. Than you for your reply

You won’t have, as the pump may or may not prime at best, so that’s correct.

You would need to have an assistant turn it over whilst you check, hence it’s best to start at the relay and work backwards (literally).

Whilst the fp wiring is prone to voltage loss with age, it wouldn’t be to this extent.

Thank you. I have sorted it now, only just found your reply. I think the pump was stuck on a dead point. Used a spare battery and made contact several times. All of a sudden the pump burst into life Car has been sitting for a while, all go now.
