Default Places to get a turbo conversion done around London or close to London

Hi guys, I've just brought a st170 and was hoping to get it turbo converted but looking into it, it might be cheap to by a black top in it. Does anyone recommend any garages I can talk to about doing this? Thanks in advance for your help

Dale @ Bailey performance may not be as local as you want but defiantly worth talking to.

What sort of budget have you got in mind as it will cost you a lot more than the car is worth for some one to do it for you.

If your looking for a drive in, drive out and done properly your light by around half and you will be well into mk2 St money.

First question is what level of power do you really want ? How much can you do your self ?
If you keep the power realistic and can source and assemble parts your self then it’s very achievable.

First things, the st170 runs an ecu controlled returnless fuel system, you will want a new pump and a return fuel line.

Second, the St uses a shit dual mass flywheel set up with a clutch that’s barley up to the st Torque let alone a turbo. So there is two real options, billet flywheel and uprated clutch or a five speeed conversion and uprated / Rs clutch.

Third, onto the engine, The St has the best flowing standard head of all the standard engines but: You won’t reach the limits of a black top head on a modest build and you will save your self the hassle of the vvt, the cams not being best suited and the differant inlet manifold ports. The st inlet is no good.

The best way is a forged engine but it’s very fashionable on a budget to build an St / blacktop hybrid.
St bottom end and a Blacktop top end with a 1.8mm head gasket. St valve springs and Arp rod bolts.
Drill and tap the sump for the turbo drain.
A braided steel Rs oil feed pipe and fitting takes care of the lube. And an after market billet Rs thermostat sandwich plate and the Rs return hose takes care of the turbo coolant.
Exhaust manifold, Aftermarket Rs or even the Oem Blacktop, I then chop the turbo flange of and weld one on to suit the turbo.
Turbo, on a budget build the Subaru Td04 takes some beating if you can find a good one.
Inlet manifold, the Rs used the blacktop inlet with a silvertop throttle body and an adapter and 440cc injectors.
Cat and link pipe to your exhaust.
intercooler and pipe work.

That leaves your ecu of choice and mapping, that’s where I do things a little differant.

Supercharging is more expensive due to packaging issues
