Default Fuel level sender unit part number ?

Hi All,
First post from this newbie.
I am restoring a 1989 2wd Cossie and due to old fuel in the tank ...read sludge ] i have decided to replace the fuel tank, fuel pum etc.... however my only problem is i cant source a fuel level sender unit anywhere :{
I have tried GG, Merlin, Burton but to no avail. So to help me track one down i have these queries if i may.....

1. does anyone know who has them in stock
2. Part number would be real handy
3. Are the Cossie and standard Sierra fuel level sender units exactly the same?

Any tips most welcome....as i have Googled my head off looking.

Thx for that Mark... however i cannot access the lower half where the actual part #'s are. Also tried Microcat but had lots of warnings from my PC's security.
Any chance of telling me the part number from that page?
Thx again too :}

Your blood is worth bottling Mark....thx so much. Are these parts unobtainable now.
I can obtain a standard Sierra fuel level sender however i cant seem to find out if its the same part on a Cossie. One would think they are the same ??

I think it was fitted to other Sierras as well with EFI, most Sierras were different as the fuel take off was through the sender. Got mine through Ford years ago and it had to come from Germany.
Try these people
https://www.fordpartsuk.com/request-parts
If not any Ford dealer that has access to the Edix system should be able to track one down wherever it is in the world.

No good mate, you have to make sure there are no fuel take offs through the top of the sender as a Cossie take off is at the bottom of the tank.

While i am at it....what do you UK boys call the square clear light next to the amber indicator light on the front lower ? This seems a rarish part as well....fog light? driving light?
Is there a description that will bring a better response on ebay etc?

If you mean the rectangular ones in the bumper they are fog lights, Cosworth ones are the same as any Mk2 Sierra or Mk3 Granada but all the new old stock ones have Cosworth tax !

Cossie tax !!..... LOL love it.

Appreciate that Mark as it broadens my search. Mine has a small hole in one which fails on a MOT.

Hi Mark,
Just had a good look at the car [its a long way away ] and yes the take offs are at the bottom of the tank however the fuel level sender unit is at the top of the tank and has nothing to do with take offs.........
Fordpartsuk...thx for that link...have replied and yes they do have one however it is big $$$$
So i need to exhaust all avenues for generic ones [usually a lot cheaper ] before i bite the bullet with Fordpartsuk
Any tips ? it looks like an ordinary fuel level sender unit to me.

You got a couple of numbers mixed up!
1647686 is what you want, not 1674686
I'll go through my stash of parts this weekend and get you picture of the right part and part number, message me if I forget!

Seal is for where the fuel filler pipe fits in the tank, they go hard and leak once disturbed.

Thats the baby i need Mark. I dont know what they smoke at Fordpartsuk as they would have sent me the incorrect part [cat converter ] after me giving them the correct 1647686 part#........after an email to them they have now corrected the hiccup and kindly included the seal as well [part # 6085380 ] however they included the courier cost of a a staggering 90 quid..... my fuel tank arrived from the UK yesterday and the courier cost via Fedex was 120 quid.....a BIG difference in size/cubic metreage and weight. Go figure !!! LOL

If they can supply one, I would buy it!

Don't pay the £90 though and get it sent to me, I can check it against mine and make sure they have not sent the wrong part - would be easier to send back if they screw up.

If it's good I'll get a price to send to you if you are OK with covering my costs

All good Mark. Forduk reduced the courier fee from 89 to 79 quid. However they said i could arrange my own courier which i did......25 quid !! Go figure.. Now they have told me it will be 5 to 10 days for them to actually get the part. Its been a long drawn out thing but it is good now that i know its sorted.
Next item i have to track down is the drivers side indicator and fog light lenses [mine have a stone crack in each one and dont pass MOT :{

Hi .. Does anyone know if this sender ( 6134923 ) will fit in the mounting hole in the tank for a 88 Sap. Cosworth ... I think its for at V6 .. and it has 2 tubes going into the tank, but otherwise it looks alot like the one pictured above .. ? If so maybe I could seal off the 2 tubes ... ?

Also the fuel filler tube to the tank ( 83BB-9034-AC-61201 ) .. maybe also for a V6 .. could this be used for a 88 Sap. Cosworth .. ?

Can't answer on the V6 parts as never tried, if the sender fits the hole in theory it would work with the pipes blocked.

Don't know about the fog lamp lenses either, they are held in with some mastic so I doubt they would need to be perfect.

If you stick the old lamps in the oven a 70 degrees for a while the lenses come off easily.

I think someone on the Ford Sierra owners forum had a pair from Russia.
Can't remember who though, might be worth signing up and asking...

Cheers for that Mark. Have joined :]
Do you have any part numbers for the font fog lights and also indicators. The indicators i received from UK are incorrect from Ebay. Did they change on models as mine is a 1989...Mark 2....yet it has amber indicators ???

1989 should be amber I think, not sure when they changed to clear.
Part numbers for clear in pic below
Fogs are 6126035
I think I paid around £150 for my set on Ebay

I mentioned on the Sierra owners forum that the year you gave for the manufacture of your car meant you have been getting a load of crap advice - including from me

1989 would have been a Sapphire Cosworth, not a 3 door and this is the route of all your problems.

As yours is a 3 door Cosworth, you are going to need to search differently for fog lights and indicators etc

3 door shared fog lights with Escort Cosworth, not sure on indicators though.

Expect a good wallet raping

Hi folks, recently repaired my fuel sender. The car had been standing for a long time without any fuel in it, so the inside of the tank had condensation inside it which oxidised the brass on the float arm. I've made this video which shows the steps i went through and the resistance readings you can expect from a sender which may help you repair your own.

Saw this one, 6134923, luckily I didn't bid on it.... checked it wasn't the correct one for Sapphire Cosworth.

But it's crazy though.... sold for £205, hope the one who won the bid wasn't purchasing it for the Cosworth.....
