Doesn’t say if it’s been long studded and don’t know how many miles since rebuild but I would say the price is fair.

I think there is a higher spec engine for sale for not a lot more, I will check

NMS don’t do long studding for some reason
I spoke with them a while back about building me an engine to over 500 bhp and said no long studding
Not heard of any failing at this level tbh.
They seem to use some sort of special bolts and a decent head gasket
Has anyone had a NMS engine built without long studding be interested if it going strong NOT long studding
yeah it’s originally out of a Escos.

If you have a 4x4 engine I’d just spend the money getting it rebuilt

The ybp as listed is from small turbo escos and has the under piston oil squirt jets as standard rather than the usual spray bar affair.

Bang on.
I’m having a 700hp spec engine built now by Karl and that is not studded.

There is is more than one way to skin a cat....

I would weigh up the costs of that engine vs what you’d need to spend on yours to make it a similar spec.
If your running that efr turbo though and are wanting nearer 600hp that eBay engine might not be specced quite enough in which case it may all need to come apart anyway....

Also a second hand engine could be a big gamble....

Cheers Paul

I’d be pretty worried at that power if it’s not studded properly and runs proper boost definitely rather you than me

Why would I be worried??
It’s built by one of the the best YB builders in the game.

Its not studded at all and it will def be running manly levels of boost

Cheers Paul

I guess all we can do is follow the advice of the people we trust to build these engines. There’s plenty of big power cars that have no issues using proper studs. But if your builder says he don’t need them then that’s fair enough. As you say everyone dose things differently

I couldn’t of said it better myself mate.

I’m not saying studs are no good, not at all.
My last engine was studded

You have already got the base for a good engine, your call but I would probably get the work done on the existing engine. Buying a secondhand YB can be good providing it's build history is solid and been done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Paul, I’ve read Karl saying that before, I’m sure I read him saying he uses the standard headbolts at 500hp. What I find strange though is why mountune studded their engines at that power level back in the day and why the rs500 block and 4x4 where cast to accept longer studs? Good to see something done differently but in my opinion I’d play it safe.

Ask for paper work to get an exact build date to give you a rough idea how long it's been cained for these engines don't last forever as I'm sure you know I asked a tuner how long a 700 bhp engine would last he said 10k track 20k road roughly befor rebuild made me want to build from new I'd ask a price without turbo/manifold your going efr arnt you

‘if Tim uses 7670 he should probably top out around 620/ 630 bhp on a good spec engine so it should last well as long as it hasn’t had a hard life before.

that was a mistake made by me as well. If I hadn’t just paid for pistons rods and liners all them years back I’d have snapped that engine up without a second thought
