Default 2008 RDS stereo little sound

Hi all,

im not much of an electrician, my cossie has a 2008 rds factory fitted head unit and separate CD player I would like to keep it original

if I turn up the stereo to maximum I get some crackling and a faint noise from the radio station on the speakers

im guessing amplifier in the unit is blown but before I buy another anyone know?

ive had it out and the contacts are clean and tightly fitted

thanks

Ok I’ve taken it apart again and all contacts definately clean

but! If I press the message button I get the first couple of lines of jess lynns latest song “I’m breaking my silence cause I’ve had a few”!!!!

if I change radio stations still crackling and I hear faint noise press message on different station and get the same lyrics of Jess lynn at the same point in the song!

now I know digital stuff can keep a memory etc but a 1992 stereo???? How is it repeating the same part of the same song???

cd player has no cd in it and I bought the car before she release the song?

anyone know what’s going on? Clearly the stereo and speakers work but why am I getting the same two lines of the same song only????

know a good exorcist??

Right I’ve looked again!

CD player works and volume works fine so it’s not stereo amplifier

MW works fine also but FM doesnt

looking online it says maybe the aerial, now my recollection is aerial is the sunroof right? Was on my xr3i so if aerial is plugged into back of stereo what else can I do???

somone must have had this issue before

I don't know about the song the stereo is playing when you press the message button I dont even know the purpose of that button so I can't help with that but regarding the reception issue I believe the car also has an aerial amplifier maybe that one gave up or has a poor connection to it? It would make sense to me that only the fm band is affected as the mw is a bit less reliant on the aerial being spot on. Worth checking out

I'd check the green amp under the rear shelf, mine was disconnected.

It's on the inside of the car under the shelf and above the metal.....sandwiched between the 2

Back seats down

c piller trims off

disconnect or remove speakers

should just be able to pull the shelf cover off to reveal the green amp

I will echo what qed296 said thats probably how id do it too. An alternative way to get to the amp would be to remove the rear seat side cushions. Then you can see some screws holding the parcel shelf on. After you undo those screws you can take the whole parcel shelf out for more room to work with (after disconnecting the rear speakers). Then the amp is in plain sight. Either way you get to the amp check with a multimeter if the amps power lead gets power when you turn the radio on. If it doesnt there must be a bad connection or a break in the wire between the radio and the amp. If it does its probably the amp at fault. Let us know how it goes and good luck
