recently driven two 6sp cars mates st170 focus bit of mway and bit of ooliganisism round backroads in surrey, then a vw tdi people carrier with a 6sp gearbox drove the vw from newcastle home to london.
both vechicles fill very diff roles but now after driving them i think i would like 6 gears in my escort if poss.
however few Q's

is the 6sp st170 gearbox actually any good?

will it work properly with turbo engine ie ratios, torque, final drive longer or shorter?

the car will hopefully see some track time but mainly road use.

as always any views welcome

i know the st box is made be getrac(sp)or zf (i can't remember which) so it should be a good un.

 

why did'nt they put the 6 speed in the rs focus

[it's weak] mtx 75 is stronger

 

will an MTX 75 fit an ERST S2 easily? wilky ?

 

need early mk5 rs 2000 easer to fit, new gearbox mounts and drive shafts

im not being rude but do you know six speed is weak or is it your opinion? because vaux calibra turbo has six speed getrag ive been told that can go over 250lbs torque which should be enough for my car.

 

cav turbo & calibra boxes & transfer boxes ant that strong beleve me i have seen a gd few of these blow up and most of em in my mates cav turbo that was runin 220 bhp
