Default VVT Regular Click

Hi, I have recently noticed the the VVT solenoid is operating in a regular cycle. Approx every 8-10 seconds. It seems to happen at idle and normal running speeds. There is no noticeable effect on the engine. No MIL or other warnings / codes.
Has anyone had a similar issue?

I don't mean to insult your intelligence but could it be the Aircon clutch cycling on and off.

fair comment as normally when they are goosed they either rattle non stop or you hear slapping in the cambelt cover

I have had a snoop around, and I’m pretty convinced it’s from the valve itself. Perhaps a little more background might be helpful to you guys. The cam belt is new, along with the tensioner, idler Pulley and water pump. The head has new valves and seats, etc. Pretty much a complete rebuild after the original cam belt stripped its teeth. If I physically hold the VVT valve, it definitely feels like it’s operating on a regular cycle. One thing that’s running through my head, is the position of the Inlet Pulley when I reassembled it? Could it be that I possibly had the position wrong. I know the cams were spot on. The things I’m thinking of now are:
Position of the VVT Pulley.
Failing camshaft Sensor.
A timing / signal issue between the Crank Andy camshaft sensors.
Or something you guys have come across. 🤗

Thanks
I’ll take the solenoid off, see how it operates. To be honest I haven’t really spent a lot of time digging deeper into VVT issues.
So it might help me understand a little better.

That does sound intriguing. During the latest MOT, the emissions were raised, but passable.
I don’t want to start jumping to conclusions at the moment. And start thinking the Camshaft isn’t responding to the VVT calls.
I’ll do some basic checks on the solenoid first, and see what that brings me.
Thanks for the replies
