roughly how much do you think to send 5 x 17 inch alloys with 205 40 17 tyres from Scotland to England? over £100?

 

I would cable tie as 2 pairs and a single. Make sure very wrapped as some will not take if obviously tyres as they catch on the courier conveyor belts so read what is prohibited.

Get a quote from parcels to go.com...£100 should easily do it.

Is paying via the courier on delivery an option? I can't use my PayPal account to receive the cash and he's quite rightedly wary of making a bank tranfer as PayPal his only real protection?

 

only way to protect a purchase is via credit card or paypal, bank transfers are same as paying cash so many are reluctant including me of paying for goods in this way unless its to a known trusted friend/seller, why not let him pay into a friend of yours paypal telling him that if he does he needs to cover the fees making it cheaper to use bank transfer

 

paisley want the wheels to be boxed if taking out the extra insurance cover , where do you buy cardboard boxes to fit an alloy wheel/tyre in? needing 650 x 650 x 250 but cant find boxes big enough anywhere?

 

I think you need to cut up smaller boxes and use quite a few rolls of parcel tape.

I had a bad experience a while back when I sold a set of wheels and tyres and the buyer wanted them picked up by his courier to sent to Cyprus.I had them advertised as buyer collects from my address!! The courier said they had to be boxed individually and it was a right pain in ass to find boxes big enough to fit them in. Took me ages to box them up and Vowed to never send wheels /tyres overseas again!!

 

I wouldn't send anything overseas. ive found the best way is to get a box slightly smaller than the wheel in sguare form pop the base out , insert the wheel so the box bends around the circumference of the wheel , slice the end flaps and tape the down forming a hexagon shaped box the exact size of the wheel.

 

booked up with paisley freight, £54 and that was with spending an extra £10 on increased insurance.

 

collected 4pm Monday at Edinburgh and deliver at 10am this morning to London. no fuss and no drama from paisley freight so all in all a good selling experience.

 

Sounds like a good company to deal with and very reasonable cost
