Remove and install is listed as 1.10 hours. That's from a popular data supplier.

on this engine all 6 are along the top under the air induction ducts. even if one snapped it surely wouldn't be to difficult to drill down into it and use a nut or stud extractor bit to remove ? especially if its a garage with all the gear to hand. local garage is quoting me Ł100 to fit all 6 as long as none snap. ill start spraying release oil into them to soak in as it goes in on Monday.

ok the plugs have been changed but its still doing the same. whats the next step to look at? the glow plug light comes on and goes of almost instantly , the car takes about 10 seconds to turn over before starting when the glow plug light comes back on for about 3 or 4 minutes before going out again. its worse in colder weather, turning over for longer but after the first start of the day itll start all day first turn of the key?

i was thinking fuel starvation issue with it taking longer to feed back through the system after a long park up (8 hours + ish)but it was the fact its worse as its colder and it was showing a generic p0670 glow plug circuit code?

If it's the v6 engine I have done quite a few glow plug modules in the past.mercedes recommend replacing module when fitting new plug.
Have you test for power to each glow plug if 1 is missing a live then the module is at fault.

As said in your previous thread... I changed everything on my Vectra Cdti to cure poor first start in the morning
The cure was a brand new starter motor
Wasn’t cranking fast enough, until the ecu sees the right fuel pressure it won’t allow it to fire

Unfortunately guessing will cost you...

could a weak battery also cause the slow cranking?

I put a brand new starter on my civic the other day and it made some difference to how quick the engine turned over

ill look at the cheapest options first as in fuel filters but the starter motor and control module are about Ł150 each which isn't to bad.

Have you got any really decent diesel specialists near you? We have one near me that even main dealers send stuff too they are that good, they have the best reputation on any garage in the whole of dorset, I imagine other areas would have such a place?

ill take the old one out and stick it on a charge first to try as a new battery is over Ł200.

If you have a glow plug fault and it's not the plugs then it's likely the module or associated wiring?

When it is turning over or when it fires is it quite smokey for a few seconds? If so that would suggest fuel supply is ok. I would check you have power at the plugs when you turn ignition on. If not go for the module.

It's on the front left side of the engine mate. Never had to do a starter on any v6 engine. If you get it on a mb star tester you find the code you have will point to the module mate.

thanks, looks like it should be an easy thing to fit. I don't have any fancy testing gear, it was my mates basic code reader/delete that threw up the p0670 code for glow plug circuit.

that's 3 times ive went to the main dealer and been surprised by how cheap they are compared to a motor factors ! a reconditioned brake caliper on exchange for my A210 Evolution was Ł170 , a brand new one from Mercedes was Ł120. an exhaust from the cat back on that same car that's listed on mercs computer as an AMG sedan was Ł98 delivered from Germany !

i needed it sorted today so I went and bought the beru part from ecp since it was 35% off weekend so got it for Ł155. the glow plug light still goes off in about a second but it doesn't come back on when it starts. ive also removed the battery to stick on charge over night so hopefully tomorrows very cold morning wont be a problem start !
took about 5 minutes turning over this morning to start but it eventually fired up in big cloud of diesel smoke.
but it still starts though.
