Default Cosworth 2wd turbo upgrade

Hi.
Currently doing a full engine rebuild on my 2wd saph and while it's all apart I'm thinking about changing the turbo to something a bit bigger.
The spec is.
Rs500 airbox
Pace rs500 style intercooler
Siemens 55lbs/hr injectors
3 bar map sensor
L8 ecu
Magnex twin pipe exhaust
044 pump and loom
Grp a coil but will be going coil pack once it's all in and running
New 4x4 pocketed pistons
Std ecu cam and bd14 inlet
I have the t35 that came off but was speaking to pj who says a gt30 delivers good results.
I want a solid 400bhpfrom it and it to have a good low down punch as I'm miles from any long stretches of road.
Any advice is appreciated

Borg Warner efr on twin scroll manifold would be my advice, go as small as you can as long as twin scroll. We aimed for 400 on mine and got 469 but on low boost map it still does just over 400 and feels great.

If you don't have straights then thenclose ratio box works really well, I have oppliger long box close ratio on 3.9 diffs and it feels great, I wonder if that would be better than the turbo to be honest. Mine is 4x4 though so not sure what you would do on 2wd but the standard cossie has long gears.

Depending on map and turbo 400 bhp comes with a lot of torque.

Doesn't yours have 380bhp already? Take it your not happy with the spool up if your thinking about changing the turbo but only wanting an extra 20bhp?

*reputed to have 380bhp*
After seeing other cars for sale all tuned by nms and speaking to other tuners I have noticed they all have 380 bhp and at best that's a guess as they don't have a dyno so can't say for sure what the power is.

Once rebuilt and run in I'll have it dyno'd and set up but while it's in a million bits I am thinking about other things I'd like,1 being the turbo as someone has hacked half the cast actuator bracket off for some reason.

Aww I get you, I'd be sceptical to wether a gt30 would spool up any quicker than a t34/t35. I'd maybe consider a smaller exhaust housing like a .48 or like Toby says a full blown twin scroll setup.

What's up with your engine?

Had a deposit on it james but guy got cold feet and another guy was desperate to buy it but I wasn't selling at that point.
Tappets were noisy so I striped it and found the pockets they sit in we're oversize so head was junk, while in bits I decided to rebuild the engine completely and paint the engine bay,re-plate all the bolts, brackets etc and fitall new loom clips.
Getting a bit fed up of it now as it's money after money but I'm almost there now, just want new alloy pulleys and bottom end balanced then I'll start rebuilding the engine.

You can't help yourself

Don't give up on it lee once it's finished you won't have any problems with it. Funnily enough I found a problem on my head and it's resulted in my full engine coming out.
I did question myself to wether I wanted to spunk more money into it or just sell it and buy an evo but I know I would regret it.

I wish I didn't go as far as I did to start with as it's an obsession now, easily spent 20k on it in the 2 years I have had it plus buying it.
If I had bought an s202 Impreza I would have used it and sold it then been onto something else by now.
Once done it will be worth it but I'll still find more things to do I'm sure.

Inside the engine is 100% stock apart from metal head gasket. Standard cams

I have 1000cc injectors (hopefully to future proof it), vipec ecu, coil on plug.

Since it was mapped I have added a better intercooler, it was on pace RS 500 style, now it is Airtec 100mm. I have added a hart inlet and took a restriction out of the exhaust.

Mark Shead mapped it and everyone was quite surprised by the power on standard but he has seen quite a few do the same since.

i would reduce the rear housing size to .48 and get it live mapped by scs or nms or your be opening your wallet right up maybe add some air injectors.

what spec us your turbo?

put a holset hx35 turbo on - can sell the t34 and buy a new holset. Will spool up like a t34 but come on boost a lot harder and good for 500bhp

I have gone for internal twin scroll, hart inlet, 83lb Siemens, bottom end will be rebuilt and currently toying with the idea of getting head work done whilst its all apart as that will push it a long a little quicker

Check to see if the twin scroll wastegate vents from both sides as there is a version of that turbo that only vents from one side and for me it is a bodge and should never be used on a yb.
