Clutch for RWD 350-ish bhp?
Looking for recommendations for a clutch/supplier for my ageing Saff please?
The current AP item has only lasted 22 years and needs replacing due to a loose bolt in the bellhousing destroying the edges of the friction plate.

Ive just upgraded from an AP organic to an AP paddle 6 with heavy duty cover as the organic clutch was slipping with my spec,T35.55 turbo, 55LB injectors etc should be over 350 bhp peaking at 32 psi on Motorsport Development chip.
Yes the paddle clutch is on/off to use when pulling off but you get use to it. I cant say how heavy the pedal is as ive had a hydraulic clutch conversion fitted at the same time which makes my clutch lighter than my 1.6 Astra which i use daily.

Not sure why you had such a bad experience with your paddle clutch, I have had no problems with mine and I am suprised your standard clutch was up to the job when you had almost doubled the power of a standard Cossy.
Been doing a bit more reading suggesting an AP organic may be the way to go. Car will be on Siemens blacks, T34.48 and MSD chip when I finally get it sorted. Expecting mid 300's power wise, although it made 300 at wheels last time it was at MSD on greens.
I have just had a ap 6 paddle fitted with standard cover. Hoping for a good experience with it. I will report back in a couple of weeks when the engine is back in one piece and I can drive it. Power wise will be 360/370 ish nothing to wild.
Go with an AP organic. I run 350bhp on mine for over 10 years now. I have a hydraulic clutch on mine so don't know how heavy it is without. I imagine its quite light-ish as it's as light as my ladies VW up with hydraulic clutch!

In my experience i wouldn't bother with anything other than a 6 paddle and heavy cover.
These days I'd go for a helix cover over an AP. The APs don't seem to hold up as well as they did years ago

I was told the Helix 6 paddle clutch and cover was better than the AP ones when I was getting my hydraulic conversion done.
When it first needed a clutch i put a new gen ford in, didn't last too long.
Next i went for a new flywheel, ap 6 paddle centre with a new std cover. Was better but still started to slip.
Finally having to accept a heavier pedal i went for a full ap heavy duty set up which has been ok for a few years now but is starting to show its age.
All the clutch slipping problems I've had are on the motorway in 5th gear
Best clutch is helix 5 or 6 pad with cover....
Remember to always have the flywheel refaced and bed the clutch in as you would brakes.
A std motorcraft clutch which is nla will do 350 bhp but dont like torque.
Send it back.
I have been caught out as so many others.
Do not leave feedback just return it....
AP organic is a good clutch if not exciding 350lb ft
Just search techniclutch on google. And get a cup of tea.

Have done some reading, it's going back. None of the part numbers match the AP numbers.
How are they still trading??
Power wise I'm expecting the car to exceed 350 slightly but would prefer the manners of a full plate to a paddle if poss.

Because the pray on the innocent all sounds good but who fits a clutch and the gives feedback. Many people are still fighting for money after fiting said clutches.
Buy from a dealer Matt lewis. Woodford garage. Burton power etc.
But please dont forget to have fly skimmed and bed in.
I have 400 plus lbft so the organic was no good for me.
My mate is running 347 on greens and gives it death with a ap organic clutch.
Hope this all helps yet a little late...

Flywheel is getting sorted next week.
Ill be returning it via eBay, paid by PayPal so hopefully should get my money back, they've sent the wrong items as far as I'm concerned.
