Thumbs up One owner 2.8i Capri pics

Just posted this on a Capri forum for valuation advice (anyone?) but thought some of you guys may like to see it?

I'd also be interested to find out about this exact spec of Capri as he was sold the car (ford Sidcup) and told it was one of 8 cars. I did suggest maybe the dealer had a few cars which they raided the RS catalogue for parts with as I don't think it'll be an official edition?

It's a D plate, 2.8i
50k miles
1 owner from new
Never restored
All the stickers and the spoiler are genuine Ford

The owner was asking me what it's worth. I'm going through the car to get it on the road (it hasn't been for years) and once it's ready he needs to sort insurance, hence the value.

Can't be many of these about? Let alone original 50k miles and unrestored?

Does anyone have an idea?

It's been in the garage on axle stands and even the bushes are all really sound and not perished! Love the radio haha

Anyway, sorry about the pics but when I go back I'll be taking her of the stands and getting her outside so I'll update with better shots.

Thats very nice, the only rs part is the rear spoiler so id say its just had that added when new, not a limited edition.Due to its condition, mileage and being one owner id take a guess at minimum Ł10k car these days, capris are now doing big money. If it went to auction it would probably fetch Ł15k.

On a serious note most special editions were dealer derived, the official ones had certain names (lost count of bodyshops asking me for dealer special decals) fiit Hawaii anyone ?

It's also got some classic 'pine' shelf speakers sat on the rear parcel shelf. Totally forgot they existed.

The graphic equaliser phase was a funny one, even my old man had one in his escort van! Used to get them from these small electrical shops in town, can't remember what they were called. Was like a sort of maplin/Halfords. It may have even been an early Halfords?

nice car, used to run part of the CCI in herts many years ago as I was a massive capri nut, I had the same rear spoiler and deep chin spoiler on my mk3 3.0S, its running the special alloys and half leather trim and judging by the year its a tarted up 2.8i special as you suspect by the dealer, I sold my mk1 rs3.1 not that long ago which finally cut my ties with the capri scene but seeing this post is doing me no favors

That dash photo brings back some memories for me my last ( and favourite ) Capri was a 1987 2.8i special.

In today's market that car is probably worth more than being suggested above, I'm guessing at a specialist auction could be Ł20k plus due to low mileage and 1 owner, certainly more than Ł15k via eBay.

Must admit I was a little surprised at 10-15k suggestions for a one owner, 50k car which has never been restored. Let's face it, anyone can buy one and restore it.. But wouldn't fancy his chances of replacing it like for like. Well, he couldn't could he being the first owner unless ford have one unregistered somewhere haha.

Went back last week and took it off axle stands and rolled it outside in the sunlight for the first time in years..

New battery on (serviced the engine and replaced coolant last time). Fresh fuel and tried to fire her up. No go, tested fuel pump and worked fine. Found the fuel pump relay and pulled that apart and the tracking on the PCB was burnt out in a couple of places. Did a temp repair and soldered a couple of wires to bridge. Then relay worked!

Still no power getting to the pump so ran a temp wire from relay to pump and she fired into life (after cleaning the rotor arm). Engine sounds really good.

Ordered a new fuel pump relay off eBay (xr3i)

Going back next week to fit new downpipes (one has a small hole) run new wire for fuel pump and give her a run.

Be carefull with those solders, they could by high current melt fuses, if the pump is faulty and has a biger power draw than it should, these melt so it doesnt burn out your loom, not sure if this is your case though.

The original pump + wire was not taking current, so ran a new piece of wire and did the above as a temporary fix just to see if the car would start and run.

Looks like a mouse had been at the + wire so assuming this may have had something to do with it.

Car was rolled back in garage and a new relay ordered.

I will be going back to fit a new relay and re-wire the fuel pump properly.
