I bought this car in November 2014 as an m.o.t failure and quickly got it through the test and even did some mods on it, used it for a little bit until June/July ish 2015 when it was dumped on my parents drive where it has sat unloved until today


Well no surprise that the battery is dead, tyres were flat and that it would not move, its the state of the interior that's unexpected, mould everywhere, its a right mess!!




The mould is all over the headlining, door panels, seats, carpet etc. etc
so as its now sat outside my house the first job is cleaning

 

spent all day cleaning. The seats were removed and everything was scrubbed then cleaned with a carpet cleaner and is looking a lot better inside, also gave the outside a quick wash. You might notice a rear strut brace is fitted, the front upper and lower braces are also on the car.

 

Great to see some love being applied to a poorly Puma

 

Looks a good project will be watching this. Use one as my daily runner, good fun but it eats tyres, bushes and wheel bearings!

 

Thanks, plan is for a test next week then to fix all the faults, once its passed sort out new wheels then fit the bigger front brakes and body kit that I bought and started to fit a year ago

 

Cool. Matey. I used to have a Puma. I miss mine,but sadly it was a rot box. I welded it up then sold it for my ST17O. There like little go karts.

Plan not changed see above, long term either the puma or the focus has to go but that's later on in the year. Need to sort out a steering wheel but I read they all go sticky

 

Yeh they all go like that. Luckly my Pooma had a good steering wheel.

 

Managed a few hours yesterday and put the seats back in, best thing I did to it last year was to purchase and fit the recaro leather. Also had to refit the old steering wheel for now



This afternoon it went in for an m.o.t and didn't do too badly, rear brakes and hoses, rear brake pipes and the airbag warning light so I got off lightly!!
No time to rest so got stuck in and started with the passenger side, it was taken apart then rebuilt with a new slave cylinder and braided hose which I bought a long time ago, next bit of dry weather I will have a go at the other side.

 

Cool as fook them seats. They must be getting a bit rare now.

 

As you know they came from the millennium edition of which only 1000 were made so probably getting very rare now, I know I paid more for them than I did the car.
Anyway worked on the other side this afternoon, had to lower the exhaust to get at the brake pipes so a good opportunity to take a picture, its a full stainless system made by piper



also last year I fitted the rear axle spacers



Just need to sort out the seat belt pretensioners now

 

The drivers side recaro is normally ripped.

What size axle spacers are they? I had 20mm on my old puma.

 

Todays episode, front seats came back out and new pretensioners fitted, just one bolt so quick and easy, should be ok now

Some time before the car was laid up somebody took something sharp to it, worst was the bonnet. Managed to find another at a good price so swapped them over today. Whilst the bonnet was of took a picture. When fitting the front strut brace I also had to fit a smaller battery to get clearance and the air filter is a k&n

 

Just a little update, the car passed its m.o.t retest today. Now that's done I can move on to sorting out some other issues with it slowly

I've always like the Puma, but have seen far to many rot boxes to be brave enough to buy a project. Liking the look of yours though well done.

 

I know all about rusty puma's my grandsons was so rotten the doors would fall off if you opened them!! no metal left round the door hinges on the 'a' post, the rest was rotten as well. Took the good bits off before it got crushed



Then I had to make a choice sell the parts or use them again as the little bugger never paid me for the bits he gave them back. Struck lucky with this car as there is plenty of metal left, just starting to rust on one sill and rear wheel arch.

Another thing I bought for it last year was some new wheels, have now had them refurbished and powder coated black and are now fitted, with the 20mm axle spacers they fill the arches nicely.The original steering wheel has been replaced with a suede replacement

 

The puma did not get used much but that all changed at the end of last year, for the last month it has got me to work every day come sun or snow and I hope this will continue for the near future so its time I gave it some attention

First up is the front brakes, the st170 discs and Mondeo callipers that were on my focus are now on the puma, do not like the red so have started to refurbish another set which will be painted black. Gave it a quick wash also. Next up is new engine mounts

 

I did this brake conversion on my puma i used to own. It was a cracking mod. I did a track day at Donnington with them and they didnt fade once.

 

glad to see progress is still being made, I hope someone takes something sharp to whoever damaged the bonnet

 

After the purchase of an st170 this poor car was once again abandoned, parts were also being removed to keep my other focus on the road so I made the hard decision to get rid of it. Needing space urgently and having little time I removed some items then gave the rest to the scrap man

I almost shed a tear when they put a chain around it and lifted it of the trailer and dumped it on a lorry, the poor thing didn't deserve that really.

I've been there done that in the past, I scrapped a mk2 astra. The car was still running and legal, bit tatty and the engine was knocking but the car still went well and got me from A -> B. Still feel a bit guilty about that one.

Shame to hear its gone I was enjoying the thread. Whats next?

 

Know how you feel, almost did the same to mine the other day as it failed its mot and its in the way but its been in the family years and is a good car so decided to restore it.
