Default End for my focus?

Hi,

I've got a zetec mark one that's fealing sorry for itself as its just failed the MOT and they are quoting 500+ to fix.

Im wondering if its worth saving her as shes 16 years old now but in pretty good shape other wise.

Whats gone?

Middle brake light - I can prob fix

suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated

anti roll bar has excessive play in a ball joint
they are both N/S and they tell be they can do for £175 inclusive - does this seem fair?

and both the rearside inner wings by the anchorage points ( see in yellow ) via youtube links. Hes quoting about 300-350 to do both but that seems excessive ( especially when they quoted me badly for welding on a micra cross member last year! ) How difficult is this to replace/cost please?

Would be glad of any advice

Cheers

Well if you have a look on euro car parts at the cost of a lower arm bush and an anti roll bar link your looking at 50 quid for the cheapest complete lower arm. an anti roll bar link is about 15 quid. So a fair price for that repair would be around 65 quid plus no more than an hours labour (and that's working slowly).

As for the welding repair the cost is on labour. Although those holes don't look massive once they start cutting away to find decent metal to weld to that hole could become 4 or 5 times as big so has the potential to be quite a bit of work. I have never had to pay for any welding work to be done so I'm not sure what a fair price is to repair .

P.s the prices above were taken using the reg from the missus's 02 focus

Hopefully the welder chap I used for my misses micra is still about and I'll track him down tomorrow.

Cheers.

I was in the same position a couple of months ago, the quote for welding was about the same as long as the car was stripped and I put it back together so the price seems right, to get a replacement car with mot will be about £600 so not much in it, I chose to get another as the general condition was poor but if yours is tidy it might be best to stick with it

Seems a bit steep look on eBay for you lower arms and arb links

Try a small independent garage that's not a mot station to rectify the failed parts

Never be scared to ask if they can do cash "cash is king to most"

The welding doesn't look that bad shop around for a few quotes but honestly think the garage is trying to pull your pants down with their prices

The welding is that bad. I just done my wifes focus. One side about 6 hours. Strip, cut out prep and weld. Prime, seal stone chip etc. And rebuild. Got to do other side next week. Hole.was 14" x 6" once i'd cut the rot out....

£200 per side is far price.

I apologise if you have seen the welding needed to " purple focus's " car, but if you are simply commenting that your wife's car needed a lot you can't say it's a fair price on his as it may be a lot less corrosion.

I'm a garage owner / welder and see these holes in various shapes and sizes all the time but from them videos it does not look horrendous especially not 6 hours a side.

Depends if its mot standard welding plate over the shit and shultz.

If the op has been given a price of £500 to do it all then happy days.
