Does anyone know if there is a better option than the standard ford one as there quite fragile and I'm struggling to find a replacement

 

Bostig alloy one , demon performance alloy one , pumaspeed alloy one .
The silver top one isn't that bad compared to the blacktop one that's really shit as I found on my st170 ended up using a uprated one off another model ford that's made from same material as the early silver top ones from cfm in America, been fine since fitted. You could also get an alloy that came fitted toearlyzetecs as standard there was one on eBay last week it sold for around Ł 46

Ł90 mine cost for early silvertop.

Quite hard to find now tho.

My ST170 is on its 3rd one now. The last one leaked from the rubber O ring. I couldnt find the O ring separate.

 

Buy the uprated one from cfm around Ł200 all in fit and forget

The metal version that Ford made and came on early Zetecs used to be easy to find, but harder now. I sold one for Ł20 a while back!

 

I put an adaptor plate on which allowed me to fit the alloy CVH housing. I just drilled and tapped the housing to allow the ecu temp sender to be fitted

 

I have a couple of OEM ford zetec aluminium thermostat housings I'd sell

I believe they came as standard on the RS1800 Fiesta
