So apparently my daily (MK3 ST TDCi) Mondeo needs a new diesel pump. Ford wanted about £3500 to fix said problem and I said "ha!"
Turns out, not many garages want to get involved with this job. I'm at the point where the car keeps going into limp mode under acceleration making overtaking etc dangerous with the coil symbol flashing. Once I turn the ignition off, wait 30 seconds, start the car it's back to normal. No eml light.
Anywho.... Anybody had same experience or more importantly, could point me in the direction of a capable garage that won't take the piss like ford?
Cheers,
Billy

If i remember rightly there should be a round plastic cover on tue timing chain cover where the pump is. Im sure you can get a tool to hold the pump pulley and chain in place for when moving the pump.

Mine was doing the same thing mate, plugged it in and it said egr so bought a new 1 and no change. I decided to go for injectors as they are the same as the 130bhp engine so can be bought cheap which cured the problem.
Got to be worth a go before swapping the pump.

have you changed the egr valve and have you had any codes read?
I changed the pump on my st tdci in 2014 after the pump failed, this caused an injector or 2 to stick wide open it nearly hydraulic'd the engine but I switched it off in time!
I had a spare pump that was stripped and cleaned rebuilt by a diesel specialist (I used flavells in Thornaby near me http://www.taflavell.co.uk ) they also lent me the special tool to change the pump this must be used
jack up engine and remove engine mount
remove inlet manifold and egr valve
remove round plastic cover from chain cover
release fuel pipes and wiring from pump
remove rear bracket from pump
crack off 3 bolts from between pulley onto pump(through the round hole)
fit locking tool to front cover
totally undo 3 bolts then remove pump
refit is reverse lol
you must then check the fuel filter for metal particles if metal found then you have to clean out all the fuel inlet pipework (ultrasonic is best)
drain tank then remove tank and fully clean out
refit tank and fit new filter
injectors must then be stripped and cleaned by specialists flavells can do this, they did mine
good luck if doing it yourself I did and it was fine

I won't be doing it myself, but thanks for the guide all the same.
I'll start with the egr first see if that makes a difference.
Then ill get on to a diesel specialist who know what they doing.
Cheers everyone

The pumps aren't bad to do at all,and don't need programming.but, and it's a big but. I have only changed one in 11 years at a Ford dealer, and that's only because it was leaking. Injectors are far more common.

To be honest though mate that's probably due to how much they charge to do a pump!

Billy i fookin hate diesesels.
I doubt i will ever own one.
Ive changed a few egr valves on transit tdcis. Of there the same as a mondeo there ok to do.
What i do to get the gasket in place is to get 2 bolts and cut them down and make them into studs. Then fit the gasket and the valve.
