my name is darren
i always had xr3i's in the 90s and loved then but could never afford a rs turbo
so i thought id start looking for a project
i want a 86 on shape but no real preference but also kinda fancy a converted cabriolet
im not afraid of the hard work and i can weld and paint

Truck looks great, welcome.

I had a S1 when I was a lad, I know have a zetec turbo powered cabriolet, the tin tops handle a lot better and are worth more. Although the cabriolets appear to be a lot more resistant to corrosion and you don't have to worry about sunroof rot.

As far as I'm aware the cabs have a thicker metal body based on the van, probably why they seem to survive, rust wise.

Mine was rear ended fairly hard by a GTE cabby years ago trashed the gte, bonnet, wings, lights, bumper etc, my cabby didn't have a scratch.

i like the idea of a more modern ending /box in a older car

got any more details on the swap over
