Default Intercool fans - front or back?

I thought I saw this asked before but couldn't find it.

I have an airtec intercooler. I got it cheap and it looks in good nick. Two fans came with it. My question is fit these behind or in front of the intercooler?

Cheers
Simon

Do a search. It has been covered plenty of times.

From memory the consensus is to have the fans on the radiator, not the intercooler to aid cooling. With an intercooler at the front of the radiator it has also been suggested to seal up the gaps around the radiator, thus aiding it to cool better.

Either will work with varying results, but if you go on the IC then the rad needs to be as close to it as possible.

Thanks guys and I do acknowledge i saw something like this posted before. I'm going to mount on the back of the intercooler but in front of rad but super close. How could I seal it? I was thinking a thin strip of aluminium ?

Good choice mate, I wouldn't have a clue on how to seal it, some one here should know.

TBH some rubber seal or even sponge would do the trick. Ford use the latter for the ducting on many of their modern cars.

When I get a cambelt cover on mine I was debating using sound deadening or roof flashing although the latter is not amazing for adhesion IMHO.

Some good advice there, I bought a new fan fitting kit- comes with a few little plastic cable tie things, a few small square sticky pads and some little springs, how does it go?

Cheers all

Fans always work best on the back of the rad

Spent a few hours fitting today.

Put the fans on the back of the intercooler. One of the fans is not working. It's second hand unit and tried to open the casing but can't do it-I'm thinking there is a broken connection on the inside. The other works fine.

Anyway, mounted the rad in the usual spot and have the cooler in front. They are very close together. I can get the bumper on which is good too as if don't want to hack at it.

Is that even possible on an RST without moving the rad about? I know on mine the Turbo sits very close to the radiator! I agree however that rear mounted rads do seem to be more effective.

I should have known there was more to this story. I take it you have one of these or something similar?

From someone who has tuned an RST alot would you say this manifold is worth going for? I guess not having a turbo next to the rad must help things a little or is it only worthwhile for the guys chasing very large numbers?
