I'm building a 2.1 zetec turbo very soon ..and going to use a rs turbo
I'm aiming for 300 -350 bhp at the very most ..but it's going to be a all round car one I can take the Mrs to the coast and one I've got anglessey 30 mins away so I can do track days ..so what's the modern way these days of making one handle ok ...as I've not owned one for over 12 years ..
Many thanks Mat.

I wouldn't use coil overs for road use unless they are custom ones, all the ones I've ever tried in an escort have been fucking awful on anything other than billiard table smooth Tarmac.
Your Missis will hate them for sure.
If your doing a bit of fast road work then a bit of suspension travel and a bit of roll are not a bad thing! The rs1600i arb/tie rod set up will be a good base but my advise is not to go track spec and have it too hard for the road if you actually want to use it on the roads

Tbh I'm blessed here that the roads are really new and smooth .I don't want it full track ..just a compromise down the middle if there is such a thing ...thanks for info mate ..I'll try source a 16i arb.
most stuff has has been covered but stiffen it up by way of bracing/strut braces. i would suggest corner weighting but on a road car i reckon its a waste of time. a focus rs box will have a decent diff , that will aid getting the power down and be a tough old unit. ps i think 16's are the optimum wheel size that drive relavley nice and allow decent stoppers
Gaz coilovers are decent, just choose the right springs often springs are so short to get the lows but not enough coil to allow comfort.
Poly bushes are a given, tighter arb also.
As for brakes, you can fit focus rs 4 pots, or for cheap alfa gtv or fiat coupe ones, justneed to knock up an adaptor.
Seeing you are going mtx, perfect time to canter the engine forwards as the blacktops were intended. Will give more room for turbo down low and pull top of engine towards fire wall better.
Loads of wasted space under inlet otherwise, see crazycages mk3 fiesta for how it can look.

I had Koni adjutable and Chasis Dynamics springs in mine - handled like it was glued to the ground. Prob one of the best handling fwd cars ive had - you could just push and push in the bends until your face would stick to the driver side window
it was a mk4 cabrio - surprised me too aswell as my mate who owned a cab at the time and he even commented how it holds the road better than his mates 4wd cossie.
honestly i could really push that car in the bends, had good quality rubber on too so i guess that helped. Only ever had the back end step out on me once when i had lost my phone and was hurrying back to where i had last left it.

As a road car.
I loved mine with factory shocks and eibach springs
Everything was polybushed with front strut brace
Was on 17's back then and I always thought it handled well
Brake wise you can get 335 ap's behind 16's (motorsport style wheel) as this is what I have at the mo

That's interesting couldn't have had much power mate because as soon as the front wheels break traction straight on you go its what I hated about my s2 nearlly binned it on a few occassions due to understeer the cabs are even worse I think your making it up or it was a bonus or a tennis
