It's been a few years since I was an alarm fitter and my company always use to use cobra (now Vodafone) so I was thinking of going with the G198 or A4198

But I was wondering what everyone else is using prefured brands etc, I had a sigma fitted in the past and also a toad but herd there now shit, I also hear Clifford very problematic

So opinions please

you can still get cobra alarms and tbh they are decent budget system something like the g193 for Ł65 or 4138 around Ł100

 

Ive had a Clifford and a toad..both were very good..Clifford on an ERST and toad on a FRST.

Deffo preferred the clifford, it was called a "concept 500"iirc, had the remote start option which were fooking amusing at times, and a sound of button iirc so you could get it too go through all its noise's too, used too scare shit outta folk with it when sat in pubs after a blast

Trouble was the gimps who installed it hadn't a clue on wiring a plug let alone a car, so whatever u choose Fit it yourself

 

Clifford G4 on my old cossie. I think it was installed nearly 15 years ago and seems to work fine.

 

I've got a Meta in mine, very good!

 

Clifford G5 or newer are very good, but cliffords are sensitive to poor wiring so need to be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. Too many "alarm fitters shouldnt be trusted to touch a car let alone cut up the wiring and fit an alarm.

 

Been very happy with the Cobra. Easy to fit, easy to use and the sensitivity is suberb. Only issue I have with it is the remote looks like half a nutsack.

 

I'm still leaning toward cobra as it's what I use to fit and what the bloke we use at work fits but as its all new vans at my place there usual canbus and ADR upgrade I'd want a newer cobra as its been mentioned older systems alarm fobs look shit!!!!

I'll definitely be installing it myself lol

 

Seriously, I'm almost ashamed to be seen fondling that thing in public...have to find out if a newer fob is available, and if it could be coded for the Globe I have. Asked already when I got it year and a half ago, but this was all they had at the time.

 

I'm sure the g198 with newer fobs is just the A4198 now lol they do look bad but if they do the job hay ho

Had 2 toad alarms in the last 2 years now now have a Sigma seems ok

 

How did you get on with the toad alarms? We're all these alarms on the same car?

 

Sigma S30, very nice modern reliable alarm

Ask any proper fitter who fits them how many faulty units they have seen

 

On the same car mate immobilizer once then the alarm kept opening the car which was traced to the control unit

exactly did me research and found the same

 

used to be the south east technical engineer for toad/sigma/datatool when toad were actually toad, but they are now owned by scorpion.

i would recommend the toad ai606t2, but i havent seen the new ones since the changeover, ive heard that theyve respecced the looms on them to a thinner gauge and thin wall cable, not that its an issue as the alarm itself only pulls 2a but the immobiliser circuit is still decent gauge cable.

make sure that you dont cheat with the immobilisers, ive seen too many cutting the ignition circuit at the column and they melt due to running in excess of 45amps throught the immobiliser circuit.

im sure being an installer youll do a dcecent job, especially as its your own car, but fuel pump and starter cut or coil is the cuts to go for.

the ai606 used to be very expandable and could do as mauch as the clifford range including remote start, total closure, prox warning etc but never had the same amount of siren chirps etc.

WITH ALL ALARMS ITS NOT THE PRODUCT THAT MAKES IT BUT THE QUALITY OF INSTALLATION.

 

Yer scorpion bought up a few companies, now, my last sigma was a very good unit, maybe all go with one of those then

 

After talking with out alarm in staller it's going to be the cobra 4138, he tells me that I shouldn't immobilise it by the coil as the regs have changed now, so it appeares some testing is in order lol
