Rusty brakes question
Im picking up my StreetKa at weekend and it has been stood outside since last September without moving.
I noticed that the front brakes are rusty, will this just come off as I drive or will I need to get them changed?
Thanks

Thanks, I was a bit worried about driving like that but thought it might rub off.
I only have to drive just over a mile to get it back home.
As the car is free I'm expecting to spend a bit of money on it to make it nice again

at least discs are cheap for these cars should it need them, but hopefully it will just need driving a bit to scrub the rust off, as for rear brake should it be stuck just rock the car back and forth and it may well free them off then get someone to service them up once home
Brakes can have surface rust on them after standing as little as 24 hours depending on conditions.
They'll be ok to drive a short distance, but for the cost and peace of mind, I'd probably fit fresh on there whatever condition they're in.
Whereabouts in Staffordshire are you?

If theyve been sat for 6 months, I'd drive it carefull home and then bin them for all the cost involved, I wouldnt want to trust the fins, they will be pitted and lumpy where the pads have held water against the disks too most likely and after scrubbing all the rust off, I'd want to swap the pads anyway.
You can probably get OEM disks and pads for ~£50 I'd imagine.

Well,
I picked the Ford StreetKa up today and even though it had been sat with the handbrake on since last year... It was fine. the handbrake worked as it should and the brake discs are now shiny again
