I used to use an autoglym high tech synthetic chamois, and always thought it was excellent, it is on the small side so needed wringing out a lot, but left a good streak free finish and never marred the surface.
I have since lost this so I decided to replace with a drying towel, now I had one from asda, some cheap brand but when wet it really pulls on the surface and I get the feeling it leaves lots of little blue hairs on there too, its fluffy on one side and microfiber on the other, and hasn’t impressed me.
Im now not sure whether to try a waffle style towel or just go back to another trusty synthetic chamois. What are peoples thoughts? I have purchased a kent one like this
I have yet to use this, and after the experience of the blue one I’m not convinced. Is there a product out there that will change my mind, or am I better off just getting another synthetic chamois?

This is the one I'm currently using and it's very good in my opinion as is their shampoo and wash mitts.

 

I only ever use a synthetic chamois, I've got real ones but can't get on with them. Admittedly the synthetic one I have is years old and very absorbent, the newer synthetic ones are crap. They didn't last long under my tenure oddly enough....

Thats what I've used and its epic. Really good and absorbent. Good Price to and would highly recommend. Only thing is dont let the misses use it on her wheels when she doesn't clean them properly!

 

ik still not that convinced, something in the back of my mind just tells me that a chamois (synthetic or real) is more workable, wring-able and will get the water off better.

i will try the kent one out before buying anything else.

 

Been using them for years - can dry the car in one go without wringing it out. (Separate towel for upper and lower panels and door shuts etc)

Much easier if you've got a decent wax layer on the car and use the "weighted hose water" method to rinse your car off.

And use a non bio detergent to clean it. Even better to use the Chemical Guys Microfibre wash:

I use one of those too. Can highly recommend it. But also have a hot air car dryer.

 

do those towels actually allow you to get all the water off the surface though.

i like the way a chamois wicks up the water and its not so massive and ungainly? i used my towel and it flops onto the panel and you still get left with streaks and marks?

 

I use costco's micro fibre cloths cheap and very good quality

 

I disconnect the hose from the pressure washer and run it over the car you'll find most of the water will come off where the pressure washer will leave you with a mist, use a large microfibre towel to get most of the water off then spray the panel with valet pro citrus bling or similar and wipe with a normal sized microfibre panel at a time. If I'm polishing or waxing I don't use the bling.

 

Microfibre towel to take most the water off first - open hose dry before if you can. I would try to pat the car or use very light pressure as easy to marr paint with a dry towel/panel. Can soften towel with a quick detailer spray.

I would then go around car a second time with a microfibre cloth and a quick detailer to get a perfect finish.

I've been using one of these for around 6 months now and it literally gets all of the water off, and is not too big that it flops about

Personally I use a good quality LARGE microfibre towel, and won't return to a chamois again.

When I use it to dry my car, I lay it out unfolded and just drag it off from the corners, seems to work wonders

Chamois are crap, they just pick up everything the wash hasn't taken off and drags it across the surface leaving even more swirls.
