I have had my sapphire for less than a year and bought it just because it was a cosworth and what I wanted ever since I was a kid. For me it doesn't need to be the best or the fastest, it was purely purchased from the heart. I still have an Impreza which can be used for the more mundane trips (well my mrs uses it mainly) so I didn't need the practicality a newer FRS would bring. The FRS is supposed to be a great car but that wouldn't be enoug for me to swap my old Sierra for one.
I always wanted a cossie since i was a kid but had the mk1 frs first due to not being able to get insurance on an escort cosworth when i was 24 lol.
Anyway i had the frs for 1 year and sold it after deciding to look at saphs! Found a low mileage 4x4 saph in newcastle which was very slow but the satisfaction i got driving it home and the looks i got off people on the road summed it up as the right decision for me.
That was 2007 and ive had a couple of quick cars since then which for me means nothing! I get the satisfaction out of having a car i like looking at and i can stick away in the garage for months at a time without getting bored and deciding to sell it!
I would go for the saph for sure
I love Saphs but i love Bmw E30's so i have the best of both worlds

Personal preference really the focus will be a much more modern car to drive and they are great cars to drive they go well and handle great.
I have never owned a cossie but I know parts etc are getting hard to find now and expensive but then so is parts for the focus.

Now that's lovely, E30s I've always loved, owned 5 E30 M3s and they were / stupendous imo, chassis are superb, also owned 3-4 of the E30 3251 sport, great car, sound lovely with a full scorpion on
Had a Cosworth as a daily runner for the last 12 years, now got a modified Focus RS and would never go back.
BUT for you as a weekend toy then COSWORTH all day mate, there are certain things in life you need to do before you die and this is one of them
Don't get caught up in all the future value bullshit, buy what you want

I've owned both and the frs is leagues ahead, the Saff is old school cool and will probably appreciate faster, the older guys on the road will appreciate it and talk to you about it, women won't get it but you can't win with them as they will think the focus is a boy racer car. For a car you can jump in and drive it's the one, Saff at stage 3 is fast, but it's not hard to get the focus to 330 bhp too. My suggestion is drive a few as they vary massively, mines a good one, and has been 100% reliable for 7 years and 120k miles

It'll be a lot harder to find a decent sapph now, I do like frs mk1s love the colour and would like to own one at some point but you still see them around quite a bit. You'll always get more attention in a sapph

The point I am trying to make is if I had gone there in an FRS would it have got the same amount of interest?
I have had mine for 21 years, would I change it for an FRS ? No chance!!

Having owned both a mk1 Focus RS and a cossie, I would say go for the Focus.
Cossie's can be fun and go well when set up right etc but getting bits for them now is getting increasingly difficult and that can get very frustrating at times. Also not easy to find a good one for reasonable money nowadays
The focus I had I really enjoyed. It wasn't huge power but it handled really well and was really reliable. I think they're a great looking car as well. I'd have another in a heartbeat.

I don't think threads like this actually help making a descision , they just make it harder . At the end of the day you buy what you want not what 23 people on passionford would buy .

I had a saff and focus rs, then sold the saff as never used it because the focus was so good. Then sold the focus because I wanted another cossie. I bought an escort cossie a couple of month ago but I'm already looking to sell it and buy another focus

Defo agree. Posts make me laugh about what car to buy. Road test them and make your own minds up.
Saph over a FRS any day for me, however the focus is newer and will be, or should be reliable and easier to get bits for if that's a consideration you're at all fussed about. Also for example, less chance a 7k focus vs. a 7k saph would be a shitter, simply because cossies are older, depends what your budget is.
