Default New Springs.

Fitted my new koni adjustables week before last. They came with -25mm springs. However, the springs they replaced were -25mm and the car now sits about an inch higher?
I've had some people tell me that springs need to "settle", is this the case? The car has since done 120miles.

They probably do need to settle a bit, plus your old ones had probably gone a bit weaker letting it sit lower than what it once did?

I was thinking the old ones might have softened up a bit. However, I'm sure it's sitting higher than when I first fitted the previous suspension.
One of the things that has got me wondering was the black unbranded springs that came with my koni shocks.

Does anyone have any pictures of their ERST's lowered -25mm on standard wheels? (My alloys and tyres have the same diameter)

Don't take this as gospel as I'm no metallurgist but I read an article on springs some years ago that explained why springs do not 'settle' (the rest of your suspension components will as they have all been moved during fitment) or get weaker and sit lower over time.
What were your previous springs? If they were Gmax for example they would sit lower as I've seen this over the years (terrible springs BTW don't use them! lol) even differing from front to back in ride height!

Thats what I thought. Everything was fitted "under load", as in, I slackened everything off and jacked up the hubs then tightened everything up. (Rather then doing so at full droop)

My previous springs were spax. Which were complete shite, as the fronts were the third pair with my spax shocks replaced under warranty. They had been on the car for about 6 months and I noticed a crack in one of them whilst making clutch repairs.

But even looking at pictures when the spax setup was brand new it's sitting higher now.

Considering a new set of springs to go with it. However, the choices these days seem to be mostly poor brands, Gmax, spax, apex etc..

PI and Apex I've used on many cars (not all Fords though) with no negative results if you do need to change again, still a bit odd though.. maybe they were manufactured wrong? Worth checking with Koni perhaps?

I did speak to the supplier when they arrived as I was expecting Blue "koni" stamped springs.
I was told Koni no longer make springs for the escort. They used H&R for a while and apparently they stopped as well. So now they use Lesjofors, some huge swedish OEM supplier. They didnt look any taller than the spax springs when placed side by side and if anything they are a bit more forgiving in ride comfort. Just not keen on how it looks, bit to stock.
