Default £1,500 for fun yet a practical car, any ideas?

Once I sell my car (Passat B5.5 TDI Wagon) I should have £1,500 to spend on another car..... But.... What should I get for this money that is fun yet practical? I have a rather large American Bulldog and 2 daughters one of 7 and the other 16...... Any ideas?

alfa 2.4 20v jtd sportwagon, 180bhp, 140+mph, and 50+mpg on a run,

get a face lift with the 20v engine, also most have leather heated seats, a/c cruise control, bose stereo etc, lot of car for under £1500

not the best one out there but gives you an idea

As mentioned above, a Clio 172/182 or even a slightly rusty (for that price) classic Impreza. Ford Puma would be a good choice too.

puma is no good for passengers unless under 4ft nor a dog thats for sure, the mix of fun with being practical is a toughy for that budget, in ford terms needs to be a mondeo or st170 estate would have thought

I bought my 850 T5 for £1400 which was strong money for one, comical amounts of rooms, sofa - like seats, 220bhp out the box and with a map will see 260 or more with a cat back and filter.
Even more room if you get an estate.

how is he gonna fit two daughters and a large dog in the car - not to mention if he has a mrs or girlfriend. Clios and pumas are too small.

You need an estate ideally or a large hatchback

I find my T5 ticks all these boxes pretty well, fuel is an issue but can still return 30 on a run.

Thanks greatly for the replies. I would love a Clio 172 as read they are meant to be huge fun.....But a bit too small I think.

There is a Octavia VRS on here for sale, think they are meant to be good cars?

deanflowers .......... Love that BMW 5 series....Such a shame it is so far away (290 miles)

Jimbo ...... I am liking that Audi, plus not that far away

My Passat is good as in performance and economy wise but lacks fun. She has the 130PD engine and I had her mapped to 160BHP so goes well and returns 47MPG, but corners there is no great feedback and this is on coilovers. A 306 GTI-6 would be fun but they all seem to have been thrashed and even then wondering if the boot in one of those would be big enough for my dog, he weighs 41kg so a fairly large beast!

I guess it depends if he needs to do long journeys or just occasionally fit them in. I could quite easily get 4 people in my 182 and the dawg would either sit between rear passengers (for a short journey) or in the boot if we had no luggage.

I do agree that a large estate would be far more suitable but for £1500 he'll struggle to get something decent and still fun.

You literally cannot go faster for less. It does everything you need!

And if you need persuading..
