Cheap petrol = big engines
The time to own big, thirsty, luxurious V8/10/12 cars is now.
The Volvo is at a point where I'm happy with it, it could do with more power but the rods will be on their limit at the next stage, so I'm thinking of selling up and getting something bigger and comfiererer, so I've been scouring the usual spots and there's plenty of 540/740/750's, S8's, S500/Cl500/E55's for sale in budget range.
The Mercs have been taking my eye mainly, especially S500's and CL500's, have any of you had experience with the above? Opinions? We had a CLS320 a couple of years back and it was a lovely place to sit.
I know it's still a 100 grand car at the end of the day and service costs will be eye watering, but you only live once!

Do it!
What's your budget then?
I bought my V12 750 nearly two years ago for less than 2% of its original cost.
And I can't see me getting anything else to runabout in until it dies in a major way, then ill probably get another one

I love how you call a 750 a runabout
I've got around 4 grand to play with mate, would that land me a tidy one?
4k on an e38 750 and you've overpaid! Unless it's low mileage in a1 condition.
They are rare tho, so finding a good one could be hard, but no one wants them that much so not worth much.
swb ones like mine seem rare compared to th L versions. but command no premium in price.
think if you had to pay for repairs they could financially ruin you. ( water pump failed on mine = £600 in parts! diy )
but cost aside its my runabout and driving a V12 daily never fails to amuse. 12mpg is the average, so even with cheep fuel, it might not be the car for you? I do less than 5k a year and 1K of that was in my economical 400hp sapphire

I fancy this, life's too short to worry about petrol going back up, buy a gas guzzler and have a bit of fun for a few months I say!

Petrol has gone down by about 20p - which still doesn't make it cheap! Not when you factor our US friends are paying about 36p a litre, and we're still paying over a quid.
And I doubt very much it will stay down for long. US prices are already on the rise, so expect ours to go up again too

I suspect when it rockets it will go much higher than it was before. The Saudi's arent doing this out of the kindness of thier heart. They are doing it to bust the competition so they have a monopoly and can charge us what they want and thus rake in massive profits over the next 50 years to help them develop a future for when the oil runs out.
Otherwise they know if the oil and money runs out together, they will go back to being an irrelevant poor muslim country that nobody in the world stage gives a shit about.....
