Default Advice please 1.18 or 1.43

Im looking at starting a collection and struggling in where to start as there seems to be more in 1.43 scale to any thing else so why are they 1,43 so cheap compared to the 1.18 ? is it priced to size or are the 1.43's just shit detailed ?

Would love a Ebony black Saff to start me off but cant find one anywhere

Our lass got me a 1/18 Frank Beila RS500 DTM by minichamps one year and the detail is very impressive - like you can't really see the discs & calipers unless you shine a torch in the back of the wheel - but they are there, all the diff coolers and well, everything it seems - very good imo.

It was a nice x-mas gift don't get me wrong but the sponsers etc don't mean anything to me -it being German DTM.

I've had a quick look now and again for BTCC RS500 stuff in 1/18 and it's just not available I don't think?

I noticed about the 1/43 seemingly more abundant but I really like the size & quality of the 1/18 stuff and didn't want an 'odd' collection, so my collection is just one!

1/43 take up a lot less space

I do prefer 1/18 stuff though. Maybe my eyesight is just a bit crap to be looking at little models though. The downside is the cost, which is why I only have a handful.

Otto make some really nice oddball 1/18 models though.

My advice would be...............don't start!

Collecting model cars is too adictive - I know from experience as do probably many others!

If you can't resist then try and go for a theme such as standard RS or XR models or Rally cars or whatever takes your fancy...........good luck.

1:18 models, the majority have opening doors, boots and bonnets, with engine detail etc.
Size of the cars does effect the price but also these days a lot are limited numbers.
A few years ago diecast metal increased in price, hence model prices increased.
Collecting models will be expensive, when I started years ago the 1:18 Escorts where Ł20 in model shops, but now they start at Ł50 plus.
Otto models are resin and when launched are Ł50 with good detail, but no opening doors etc
Be prepared to spend a fortune, and a bit more

That Sunstar MK2 is a nice model and Sunstar are well-priced for nicely-detailed models.

Big fan of Otto too. Detail is incredible, but as said no opening doors etc. Surprisingly heavy for Resin too.

1/18 tend to have more detail, if you have the space that's the ones I'd go for. As said above it does become addictive and can be expensive.

Decent 1:43 models aren't cheap for what they are these days! I have some 1:43 models and some 1:24, but the vast majority of my collection is 1:18. I love them! I also have a fair number of 1:12 and even a few 1:8

Gets expensive, so be ready.
The 5 in this picture are worth over Ł1100
The one in the middle is extremely rare.

It does get expensive, the more that are released, the more you buy.
An old pic of mine, approx 20 more added recently

1/18 mate, look on my Facebook pics an you'll see some of my collection.

1/43 shit imo to small and resale is shit, not that I'd ever sell mine, just nice to think theres thousands of pounds in models sat in cabinets lol

Once you start, keep pics ao you're covered with house insurance! They aint cheap and you wont stop once you start lol
