Default What's the handling like?

Hello there. I had recently started to think about getting myself an escort rs turbo as I didn't think I could insure one until I had a go on the elephant website for a laugh.

I currently own a saxo vtr (just for the record I have never owned a tracksuit or an item of burberry lol) and the handling is nice with an eibach/bilstein setup. Since i've never been a passenger let alone driven one i'd like to know how one of your cars goes around corners. Thanks

Most people on here will probably tell you that the RST doesnt handle very well. Infact, I think they do handle really well once you have made improvements to the suspension. Don't lower it by more than 40mm (25-30mm is ideal), use decent springs (Cobra, which I can supply), use decent Shocks (probably Koni or similar quality). There are other things that you can do, but it depends on how far you want to go. Unlike your Saxo, RST's are now mostly around 15 years old, so the original bushes will reflect that. Replacing certain bushes with Polyurethane items will tighten it up no end. Also, a good tyre selection can make all the difference.

Hope this helps.

If you want to extend on what Christian's already said, I think you can get them Rose Jointed and Corner Weighted etc by someone like ZOO Motorsport who specialise in making cars handle! HTH

Sounds like some decent improvements can be made then. I wasn't planning on keeping the suspension standard anyway. Thanks for the promising outlook

test drive one..... your be dissapointed after jumping out of the saxo.
As much as i'm a RS fanboy and hate Saxo's handling is something they have in the bag and unless you prepared to spend a couple of grand on suspension it will never match the saxo and even then it will be a harsher ride more suited to the track and youve lost the PAS as well.
just my opinion

As much as i love my R.S i find they handle pretty poor, you can only throw it about so much until it becomes upset, plus the wet is a no go area, under steer is a nightmare, and if the tyres are not up to scratch the back end has been known to get slippy, maybe its due to a bit of the heavy pedal syndrome, but thats my opinion

Hmmm just took it out for a drive. I keep telling myself that more pace will justify everything. Do you guys rate coilovers? ssc tends to see them as overkill on a saxo. The eibachs have stiffened up the ride quite noticably so I don't think coilovers on an escort will bother me that much.

Coilovers I think tend to be used for Track cars etc, but road wise I would say they handle very well out on the road, and if you can put up with the harsh bumpy ride then yeah, go for it mate!

What spec was the one you drove?
