Hi, at the moment I have a 1.8 zetec petrol 1999. and I am wanting to get a diesel focus up to 04 plate, but not sure what diesel engine to get as this is all new to me diesels, I see so many focus with diesel engines, tdi, ttdi etc etc, so just wondering what is the most reliable diesel engine to have, many thanks.

 

In the mk1 focus you rarely hear of any diesel giving bother. Most trouble is caused by dual mass flywheels and clutches. If you said mondeo then avoid the tdci.

 

thanks for your reply, I always thought that DMF was in focus after 2004 mk2 and not the mk1, sorry if I am wrong

 

No they are in the mk1, solid flywheels are a common conversion so most may be done already.

I have been offered a ford focus 02 1.8 tdi 5 door hatch, has full m.o.t with no advisories and also has full service history they are wanting £900. can I ask is the TDI a good diesel to have?
