Hi. I have the mk3 face life mondeo. I recently bought an alpine double din stereo to replace the std one. I bought the ISO patch lead and a facia panel. Here's the problem, my new stereo is slightly bigger than the hole in the facia! Are these things not a std size? Anyone know if there's a solution to this as I don't wanna get rid of my new alpine. Cheers.
It depends on the Stereo you removed, was it the in dash Sony 6 disc unit? If so, they have a slightly different shape to a normal stereo at the top, and the Mondeo centre console is shaped to fit it, you either remove it to cut a section where top of stereo fits or source another console using the standard Ford stereo.

Hi. Thanks for replying. What is on it now is the standard ford 6000 CD. The later one that is part of the console. As I say I got a facia adapter plate. But my cage is too big for the hole in it. The cage does fit in the hole without the original stereo in it. I just winder if there are different types of facia plates? Can't see why that'd be tho. Not if the stereos are all std sizes.
There are 3 different dash layouts depending in what was fitted
The complete centre console may need changing as they come with standard 6000 fitment, sony fitment and satnav fitment
The autoleads adapter onky supports the 6000 fitment head unit

it took months to sort my one out, and it still fits a little wonky
either the sony or the 6000 facia is deeper so you can get more "stereo" into the slot, but the aperture sizes may also differ as the sony versions came with different fitments and angles depending on which cars they were fitted to, they also came in the focus and galaxy and aren't interchangeable hence the difference in the shape of the facia panels

Well as I say the unit fits in the hole but the issue seems to be the auto leads facia is too small for my alpine cage! So is there not a bigger facia available on the market or some other kind of conversion? Or is it a butchering job. Can't believe they sell the gear to change the stereo but it won't actually fit anything. Looks like I'll have to stick with the std and sell my new one. Gutted. 😟
Fire some pics up of everything if you can.
But as Dojj says, there is 3 variations for the Mondeo Mk3 and all have different applications due to stereo design/shape used by Ford.
Also, if you google Double DIN fitting for mondeo mk3 etc you will get loads of threads on TalkFord and ST Drivers etc of other lads who had issues and had to cut or faff about with fascias etc, some recommend buying a universal cage but cant remember the exact dimensions off my head.

if you have the quad lock then each different section is allocated to different things and yes you can get adapters that simply plug in
you just have to see if your radio is one that is listed
but well done in giving it a go

Cheers. I was bricking it when I committed to the hacksaw. Bit the bullet and got stuck in. Quite proud of myself. Yeah it's a quad lock. I did notice empty spaces in it and wondered.
