Painting exhaust system?

I want to refit my standard exhaust back on my xr2, but has surface rust and will spoil my restored car.

Has anyone painted their exhaust systems before?
How did it look?

Painted my rs exhaust with the high head, needed a good sand down and prepping first, still needs some work done but I think it looks allot better, just hope it lasts.
