Default Wasted Spark Back to Standard Coil Setup

Hi guys,

could anyone tell me what I need to buy and do exactly to return a wasted spark ignition system back to standard GrpA coil please?

Obviously I'll need to buy a GrpA coil, but what else do I need? Does the ECU that's fitted with the wasted spark driver kit need to be modded at all?

Cheers,

Rich

Why are you getting rid of the wasted spark ignition set-up? I have it on my 2wd Sapphire and have not had any problems at all. It seems like a backward step to me?

Cheers guys.

I'm having trouble with my ignition system and was just wondering how easy it would be to revert back to the standard coil to help me fault find. If it involves messing about with the ECU I don't think I'll bother.

Wasted spark is a great idea IF it worked 100% every time but there is to many fuck ups in this system if you want ws on a cossie get a p8 ecu or go after market

A good well maintained ignition system will work brilliantly mine does ! 36 psi out of a t36 and 30 psi at 7k not one missfire with a standard plug gap of .75

Entirely my opinion too Jay, but some people can't see past wasted spark and if it works for them, great, but i don't see it as a necessity if you keep your car in top shape.

exactly what i have been saying for years

wasted spark is a fix for something that isnt broken

and quite oftern it would seem it isnt even a fix , we see more and more people having issues with it that you ever hear about with the perfectly good std setup

It is a slight oddity lately about WS setups, some cars/people have no issues where others have had problems . Im sure I read somewhere not so long ago that the Webers can be sensative and its also been mentioned its a kit for an ecu thats not originally designed for WS obviously . Is it pot luck with old ecu,s or incorrect fitment/parts or a mixture of the two is the question that comes to mind for cosworth owners.

Jay is yours on a new loom as that must help towards things ?

Good point ! If you are going to change to wasted spark ignition get a new engine wiring loom, swap your l6 ecu to an l8 ecu and fit all the other parts that are needed. If it is done correctly by someone with the right expertise you will have no problems, only advantages in my opinion.

when we converted back to standard after all our problems, i just bought a multi plug that matches the wasted spark subloom, and made my own standard coil sub loom, its only 5 wires!

I have a new loom on the 3dr, Omex 600 Ecu and didn't have any issues.
Due to start the car again over the weekend after a year.
Shall give it a service first and hope it's all good.

Agree with jay 100%. It seems luck of the draw, some people are lucky and it works fine, mine has been hastle since I fitted it, still on going, the bit where people say if fitted correctly it works ok, making out that if u are having problems u don't know what your doing.
