Default Noisy BC Gearbox

Just fitted a spare rebuilt gearbox to my car, without driving it. Its noisy on idle with the wheels off the floor and its noisy when pushing the car in and out of the garage... Like a rough grinding noise!?
Im not driving the car because im waiting for my gearbox oil to arrive, so the gearbox is dry (stupid i know). Now i know its prob why its noisy but should it be so noisy without being driven? My main concern is i dont want to waste £40 of gearbox oil in a shagged gearbox!

Empty vessels make the most noise
I would have thought with oil in it , it will be silenced
But I would also have thought if it is dry and your running it even on idle for to long it may cause a Bearing to fail

This is me being stupid but I would have thought the gearbox would not be moving if the car is in neutral and idling?

The shaft located in the clutch will be rotating which I think may make one rack of gears rotate
Then again they all maybe rotating, but just not engaged to cause drive?

If your really worried Rog, why not fill with cheapish £15 oil, run it about, if your happy drop out a cv and refill with the good stuff?

.

The shaft that goes into the clutch plate will turn as soon as the engine is turned over unless the clutch pedal is held down, so having the engine running would mean there have been dry bearings turning at engine tick over.
Was it noisey straight away.
