Escort rs2300 van questions.
Hi all first post don't quite know where to put it but here goes. Right I need to pick some ford brains, it's a bit long winded so bare with me and I'll try to explain as best I can. I'm in the process of planning out a build on a rs2300 mk6/7 escort van. What I've got to so far is pick a van up as cheap as poss will most likely be a diesel. Pick up an rs2000 car and be ready to strip bits off. The only sticking point I've got is this. I know the 2.3 from the galaxy is pretty much the same engine as an rs2000. Now can I go and get a galaxy, drop the engine and box out complete and use that engine ? Would I have to swap the gearbox over from the galaxy to the escort car gearbox and will it all bolt up the same or is the galaxy and escort box the same and I can just use all of that. Step 2 if you like will be taking the rs2000 complete front end and bolting it all up into the van, in theory it will all bolt up the same. Now it all comes down the motor and the wiring. What would I have to change around between the 2.3 and the 2.0, are the inlet manifolds all the same/injectors/wiring. And the gearbox's between the 2. Of course I'd have to do a complete loom swap between the car and the van so that's not a problem but what do I do with the ecu? If I had the whole escort car loom in would I be able to use the original 2.0 ecu setup or would I have to use the 2.3 setup? If so will I have to also change the barrel so it recognises the key etc. Will I have issues with the immobiliser if I get it wrong or will it be a case of having to have the key mated with the car to get it to work. And now to the other end of the car. The rear axel it's self I presume it would be drums. Is it only a case of changing the hubs over so it will take discs or has it all got to be chopped about as I doubt the car rear end will bolt in? I know I'd have to have brake pipes made up and probably abs sensors run along the van if it will have them on the car. And I know I've got to change the tank and pump but all of that's in hand, just trying to work it all out before I go spending any money. Sorry if none of that makes sense but I hope you get what I mean. Thanks in advance and if you want to ask any more fire away.
I'd say you could be making hard work for yourself. What I'd do is just get a mk6 rs2000 and swap it all over, but just use a 2.3 bottom end, surely that would be easier, also if converting from diesel to petrol I think you would need to swap the fuel tank, pump etc, could you maybe try finding a petrol van to make it simpler for yourself?
