Default Zetec Turbo Engine - Turbo Recommendations

Hi All, gave up on my CVH and decided to go down the Zetec Turbo route,

Bought the ST170 Bottom End and 2.0 Blacktop Head from Davysaff so going to crack on with that.

I currently have what I think is a standard T3 turbo that I dont think will be up to the task.

What turbo do you recommend and what exhaust housing size do you recommend etc.

Looking for as close to 300 hp as possible, ideally wanting to keep the standard RST exhaust manifold.

Whilst im at it can anyone explain what the whole .36 / .38 etc means as I am mega confused lol

Many thanks folks - Appreciate it

.36 is the housing size, .48 is larger. a stage 3 t3 which will have the .48 would be a decent turbo on a zetecturbo with good response

I'd use a T35 less lag than a T34 with .48 this will get the power you want.

I've got a garret t28 hybrid, standard focus rs t25 with t28 internals. Hoping for 300+ myself. And you can pick them up for reasonable price, turbo technics sell them and may even do you a deal with your turbo in exchange. I'll also be using a forge actuator with it.

If using an RST manifold then a stage 3 T3 will be very very punchy and just do 300bhp, could even go 60 trim comp wheel for a bit more flow as the Zetec will swallow it.

What sort of money can these be picked up for? I'm going to be needing a turbo soon. The manifold I have is off an RS and has the t25 flange on it.

Karlos what psi will be needed on a Stage 3 t3 to get 300? The one I am getting has a 360 degree rollerbearing and cut back blades with a .48 on it, would that be up to the task?

Depends if you want them new or not, turbo technics will be able to give you a quote but I was watching one on ebay that went for between 2-300 if I remember correctly.

That's a very difficult question to answer as everything from your CR to what manifolds you use changes the boost level you will see for a desired BHP... it's about flow not pressure.
But very roughly 20-25psi, yes that should do it.

Thanks Karlos, I am ideally looking to keep the RST manifold as it's matched to the downpipe so is less hassle to change it, Is there any other turbo's that fit this Manifold? I take it a T34 / T35 would fit? Would the T34 and T35 need to be uprated in anyway?

Would they be recommended over a stage 3 t3 or is the stage 3 the best opton?

Ideally looking for a bit over 300 hp with IDEALLY some room for future growth so I am not running on it's limits. Although if a Stage 3 T3 is more cost effective I could settle for that,

Your thoughts

Thanks

So by that logic I take it that anything that begins with T3 should fit that bracket / Manifold?

Thanks

Yeah that would be a nice choice with some headroom too.

Pretty much yes! lol But only an RST T3 will fit the RST down pipe AFAIK.

Karlos, Does that mean if I went T34 I would have to get a different Manifold / Downpipe anyway?

I've a focus RS tubular manifold with. T28 flange.

I've heard a GT28R is a popular choice.

Have recently bought a 4x4 Saph Cosworth Turbo so 60 comp wheel etc. Is there an adaptor or elbow I can fit that will line up with a RST downpipe?

Also been offered a T35 at a good price (Big Turbo EsCos .63 Exhaust etc) what work would be involved in fitting this to a ZT using the RST manifold? Would space start to become an issue with the turbo being bigger and is it quite laggy?

Out of the two what would you recommend ad the best one to go for and without masses of work getting it to fit

.63 is too big unless you want 500bhp and lots of lag! lol
I would use the 4x4 T3 and fab a Cossie down pipe onto a RST exhaust.

You could get a rst .48 housing and put your t34 compressor and core onto it nice turbo you'd have there and you can use a standard down pipe

You could also use a 1.8 exhaust cam to reduce the lag !
I ran a .55 housing with a t34 front made a nice setup peak boost by 3000rpm

Hi mate, do you know where I would source one of these ? Had a long look online and cant find anything, a 4x4 adaptor to save me making a custom downpipe would also help lol

So decided to upgrade the turbo in the end to a T34 .48 housing, Is it safe to block the water feeds off on these or should I use them? What would I need to block them if I did do it?

Cheers

Fine to run a T series without water cooling, they don't need blocking off on the turbo (unless you just want to of course).
