Default Clutch Issue

Hi All,

I have a Caddy Mk3 for work, 1.9 PD engine, manual.

After a long run down the motorway the other day, the bite point seemed to be really really low - like within the first inch of travel. It's usually just past mid way on the pedal travel. No slip happening.

Thought perhaps slave cylinder, but then after half grinding gears going through a slow town bit of driving for half an hour, it seemed to improve. Started up again the next morning and was fine.

It's just done the same thing again today.

Any ideas?!

Chris

I would be putting a clutch and slave cylinder in it.

Do these have a dual mass flywheel.

As far as I'm aware no it's a standard flywheel.

It's just ticked over 160k so not impossible that it needs the clutch replacing, but this wasn't the classic symptom of a worn clutch or a failed slave cylinder. Would like to have some sort of idea what's happening before randomly replacing parts at not insignificant expense. Bit of an odd one!

Cheers,
Chris

Any ideas people? Best bet so far is slave cylinder but perplexed by the relationship to long runs at speed in a constant gear....

A low biting point would suggest to me tired clutch springs, if it was slave cylinder then I would have thought either no clutch at all, or no real biting point with pedal feel being a bit vague if you get what I mean.
