Default Environmental speed restrictions

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2...-air-pollution

What a load of shite.

What worrys me more about this is the undermining of speeding tickets by this proposal.

Currently any speeding ticket for breaking a speed limit is ultimately (however loose the link) a road safety issue and as such the penalty points issued to drivers are about unsafe driving.

In fact i cant think of any currently endorsable offence that isnt ultimately related to road safety...

So if you are caught doing 70mph on a 60mph "green speed limit" motorway, surely they are now giving penalty points for perfectly safe, yet environmentally unfriendly driving.......

Thats a new worrying prescedant IMO.

They plan on spreading this around the country too.

Imagine some guy banned under totting up for 4 tickets for perfectly safe yet bad for the environment driving

rediculous.

If they can get away with this, what next, penalty points for driving your high emissions car in a "low emissions zone"??? Penalty points for accelerating hard (albeit within the remit of safe driving) purely because its environmentally polluting?? penalty points for not paying a congestion charge? Green lanes on motorways??

Sure its "only" one section of motorway and its "only" a 10mph drop, but thats not the point IMO.

Its accepted that the motorist is now a cashcow.

DVLA licensing and the penalty points system is about safe driving.

So isnt it time they start seperating minor offences that are clearly about making money or non road safety related issues from those that are clearly about safety only.

Sure put in restrictions for the sake of the environment but issue fines commensurate with the "crime". ie a cash fine.

Its all going to get a bit silly IMO.

Apart from setting a precedent for elsewhere, it's no real hardship.

M1 J28 to 35 rarely gets up to an average of 60 in the daytime.
