Car with 2 log books and p/plate
Hi guys
I'm buying a car off a friend tomorrow and its got a private plate on it that he is keeping as its his name but the cars got 2 logbooks one for private plate and one for standard reg. my question is....
Which one do we fill out tomorrow? Like I said he is keeping the plate but I will use it on car until he sends paper work away then the car will be on standard reg.
It's a confusion situation but hopefully I've explained it as clearly as possible.

If both log books are for same chassis number you must fill in latest issue one as they will reject anything else, if not same chassis number you must fill in the one for the car.

Neither, if he's keeping the plate he needs to fill out the form to put it on retention or transfer it, after he does that the dvla will issue a new v5, and that's the 1 you need to fill out in your name,
Filling out the current v5 with the private plate will put the plate in your name along with the car,
And filling out the v5 with the original plate will only cause probs as it's not the current v5, as the dvla has issued a newer 1(with the private plate) since that 1' so that's actually an old logbook and no use to anybody

He shouldn't have two logbooks. You surrender the original one when you assign the private reg to the car (and keep the green slip, similar to when you buy a car), they send you a new on out with the new plate on!
As above use the most current one (which should be the one with the private plate on!!)
