Hi all first post and will be a sort of long term build

Idea I the build is to have a fast n/a engine in a sierra, why? Seems like every one does the same old cossie rep ect I'm going sleeper mode!

Picked up a 1989 sierra sapphire a few weeks ago and got the bloke down from 800 to 500.

Any way I took it for a m.o.t and was expecting a massive list...

No just one advisory and that was slight leak on diff, very shocked and happy at same time as seems like I got a clean one

Picked up a focus st170 engine up with a knackered dual mass and clutch, so started stripping engine this weekend.

Morning all, I payed £200 for a st engine, loom, ecu, key ect and came from a 2003 st170, I'll be getting rid of the bits I don't need if anyone needs any engine parts

Spec I'm looking at is:

Rebuild full engine with new bearings,shells,gaskets ect

I'm going to need to get a billet flywheel and good clutch as the dual mass what was in there was foooked.

The head work is going to be done by a pal o mine that knife edges the ports and polish it up

Still debating what to do with the vvt, I'm hearing mixed views on this weather to keep it or get some race cams in there.

To finish off with a set of hyabusa carbs along with a decent ecu thinking omex but maybe try nodiz

If anyone can help me I'm all ears

Sack off the carbs and go with ITB's.

Won't be much of a sleeper with a screaming lump up front

There's a lot to be said about keeping the VVT, but generally that's in turbo form, I'm sure someone can advise you on that.

Looking forward to seeing what happens!

 

What ITB's should I look at? Like I said I'm all ears on help on this as I haven't come across one on the net

IIrc weber do a full kit for them, which is near £800 though

 

Hmmm maybe have to keep a eye out I do want to use some weber twin 45's as love the sound of them but not sure I would betteroffthem rather than the bike bodies?:/

 

Carbs are old hat, bodies offer so much more refinement and better gains, even bike bodies,

K1/2 Gixxer bodies are common with Zetecs.

I run an ST170 engine on Weber Alpha ITB's and can't fault it. Car is 110% reliable and also really good on fuel. They don't need the same constant maintenance that carbs do either. Mine made 193bhp at the flywheel with a big standard engine. Even though they are dearer, they are deffo worth the extra cash.

Had a spare hour at work today so started stripping the cams out, head will be off tomorrow to inspect the bores,pistons ect [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

 

Hi all sorry been having few doubts about going n/a, I'm going to throw all the spare cash into this build..

Thinking to rebuild bottom end as good for 300bhp

Top end will have cams, double valve springs, port and polish and have them knife edged by a pal at work,

Want to find somewhere or someone who can do me a st170 rwd inlet pleneum - and exhaust manifold to house a decent garret or holset turbo..

My work used to be a welding company so can have all types of things welded but trying to get my boss to teach me how to weld like him he is spot on,

Any help?

 

Hi there, my name is Saadiq & I'm from Cape Town South Africa. I'm brand new to this forum & was hoping I could get some help with the same conversion although this thread looks a bit oldish. Everywhere I look there's info on zetec to rwd escort conversions but I drive a 93'' sapphire 2.0 efi. What changes/ conversions are necessary to get the st170 engine comfortably fitted in my car and how difficult is it? I intend to use itb's, aftermarket ecu and keep the a/c & p/s. Thanx!
