If it's special order, normally Dealers want the money up front as they can't return them.

If it's a standard bolt why go to Ford? I saved a fortune shopping around and managed to most of mine cheaper elsewhere and had them replated in gold zinc.

Even the Ford stuff was poor plating and I still ended up getting them re done

Thats the thing the parts dept will be scared to order them in case you dont go and collect the parts cause then they will be stuck on the shelves and wont be able to get rid of them.

It's normal practice at Ford to get payment before ordering parts, If they know you that normally just order them and ask for cash later.

I get told stories like this all the time , most Dealers don't want the hassle of looking up old parts for cossies/rs turbo's etc , thankfully I own both and get more excited over them than the daily 1.25 fiesta inquierys! So if local dealer won't sort it give me shout and i'll stick some in the post for you...rrp is Ł5.56 btw

I went to Ford to see about getting a new Ford badge for the front of the Cossie but after about half an hour I was told they don't do that size any more and if they did it was going to be 60 odd quid or something like that, I walked out, the guy smiled and said, "thought you would" haha. eBay - few quid, sorted haha.

My local parts department, Allen Ford in Swindon reckon that they stopped Sierra production in 1987, no such thing as a MkII Sierra. They'll order parts in by finis code but they get all arsey, wanting to know where I got the finis codes from. Proper useless bunch.

Suprised any modern Ford parts dept have the means to look up stuff for Sierras etc these days, unless they dust off the old Microfiche

I got a brand new Escort turbo gearbox in a crate from them. I did work there though.

And the first mistake you'll make is telling them it's an RS. They'll just be laughing inside as 99% of the time it's the same parts as a bog standard 1.1 escort.

Place I used to work was proper old skool, the parts man used to hate people calling OHC engines... 'Pinto'

He used to say, "What do they think it is, some special racing engine?"

Some parts men are mad though, they can remember and reel-off finis codes from the 80s (and before)

I just tend to think If I worked for fords I would keep the enthusiasts happy because I would be an enthusiast myself.

I don't see why everyone that works for ford hasn't got an older project car or and Rs/St surely you don't just fall into a job at fords.

Surely you wanted to work there because of an interest in the place!!!

When I contact my Ford dealer they are pretty helpful. They never have the parts because they don't make em but they can always give me a price for parts they don't make anymore???

Looks like I'm very lucky with my local Ford parts dept - they're happy to order parts for me and I pay for it when I have the parts on my hands.
