Nice thread mate, thanks!

Found this on it tho .....................BAD BITS

Drivers seat cushion has gone soft and seat is worn but not badly, turbo guage works fine but bulb inside has stopped working so cant see it at night not that i ever look at it anyway, dash has heat cracks but being 20 years old what would you expect, car starts and runs fine but when started in the morning from cold need to keep idle up with accelerator otherwise it goes dead and doesnt like starting but if accelerator held for 30 second or so its fine to switch off and restarts everytime, and some kids lobbing stones off a bridge managed to put 2 dents in her 1 on the drivers door and 1 on the rear quater obviously the car is white so its an easy colour to paint and match.

Not too sure about that lot?

Seat bolsters can be replaced, dash can be replaced, has same problem on cold start as mine - just a fuel pump relay - Ł40 (but don't tell the seller that!)

Dash - Ł150 if it's bad.

Needs a little paint, but if you paid 1800 for it you would have another 1700 to mint it.....

Worth a look if it's anywhere near you....

I'll find out where it is mate, if thats all its gonna cost to correct it then it might not be so bad, but do you think replacing the buggered bits with original items from other cars, would that de-value the car in the long run at all?

As long as the parts are original S1 parts then no, not at all...

There's another on ebay now in Kendal - clean but has head gasket probs.

Only thing I would say about the one in edgeware is the mileage. But for the money that's to be expected....

Found out Edgware is only Middlesex mate! Thats about 2 1/2 hours from me, far better than the 5 1/2 hour trip to Pontefract for the other one!

Whereabouts are you then Kieron?

Kieron, which one is Lancs mate? Is that the one in Telford?

Not getting a loan for one tho mate Got myself out of a small amount of debt (only 2k) about 3 years ago and vowed never to do it again!

Don't mind one that needs tidying as I can get all the bodywork done cheap as and it will be brilliant for it aswell, the joys of your old man being in the trade!

Get you now mate! At work so flicking on and off the bloody pages!

I'll have a look at that one on ebay, the 2.5k one in pontefract still looks a good buy to me, but is that the one that Mikey said had a S2 crossover pipe?

Yeah the Pontefract one has the wrong pipe on it. Depends if you want an original car or a respray really, I noticed they had sprayed too much of the grille on that one too as the top of the grille should be black as if it was masked off....

The one that's just come on ebay looks well - in Bristol. 80K miles, not messed with under bonnet etc.....

Definately worth a good luck over. Don't forget to print off the buyers guide and go over every inch of the car. Pull the carpets up, get under it, and if you decide it's the one then do a quick HPI check over the phone or internet before you hand over the cash.

I usually ask if there is any problem with history, if they say no, then I say "OK, here's a hundred quid deposit - refundable only if the HPI check is bad" - and get a receipt for the deposit that states that.

That way you secure the car, and have a get out clause if it's a wrong-un.

Yeah will do mate, cheers for that.

All I worry about with these RS's is if there a re-shelled bloody heap, I guess the HPI check will say if its a genuine S1 or not will it?

Well to a point yes. If they are going to re-shell it then the VIN numbers probably wont be stamped by the drivers seat. If the VIN is there then scratch it with a screwdriver, if they filled the original VIN number with filler and then stamped a new number in it will come off when you scratch it. Check for welds around this area too - to see if they welded in the old VIN number from the original shell.

Usual stuff applies - check alignment of panels, wear on steering wheel and gearknob. Ask *why* they are selling such a classic. Get the reg number up on here and RSOC and see if anybody knows the car. Give Derek - the RSOC registrar a ring and see if he knows the car.

The HPI report will tell you if it's ever been stolen and recorded or crashed and recorded. They are not infallible mind you.

The Bristol one certainly sounds good - 2 previous owners and looks pretty much unmolested under the bonnet - even the original airfilter/airbox is on it. They also have every MOT from new - a good sign, and some receipts/paperwork etc. It certainly sounds ok, but the proof will be when you see it - it may be a dog!

Ah well. Prob with ebay is that for stuff that is highly sought after the sellers tend to do deals "off ebay". Been guilty of both buying and selling that way myself - great when you're the buyer, crap when you lose out on something you really want.....

The search goes on my friend!

The price of middle of the range cars doesn't seem to be too bad at the moment anyways so i'm sure that the right 'one' is lurking just around the corner

As long as i've managed to find one by the time all the major shows come round then i'll be chuffed! Plus it gives me abit more time to save some money up! lol

Been looking at this on again mate, might be well worth a look for 1800 quid, thats cheap for a Series 1 let alone any decent RS Turbo!

One thing i've noticed again is these overriders, there seems to be inconsistencies with them, in this example the front ones are positioned wider than on yours, any reason for this?

Obviously been put on wrong on the front. Definate inconsistancy. Spoke with a friend who was serious about cars as I was back when the S1 came out - he said he never saw them with rear overriders. According to a source at the RSOC there were allocation problems on the production line, hence some cars had overriders thrown in the boot. Then the dealers nicked them for the parts bin!

All the cars got front ones, hardly any got back ones.....

Supposed to be on according to all brochures though, just a cock-up/shortage on production....

Having never owned one I obviously don't know but can you move or slide the overriders around on the front bumper? I.e. I could move them back to the right place like where yours are or would there be drill holes etc where they are now?

Yeah, they have a screw underneath from what I remember, just move them to the correct position. There isn't a bolt that goes through the bumper or anything - they just slide and lock.

Doesn't leave any holes or marks.

Doesn't look too bad mate, I don't know how you find all these on ebay, every time I have a look its the same bloody ones that was on there before!

Front valance doesn't seem to line up aswell as the boot being out, Halifax is 5 hours again

I've still not heard from one of the posts on the RSOC, I think the one thats for sale in Telford is in the back of Performance Ford for 2k, but now its down to Ł1600.

John, when I search on Autotrader mate, none of those come up at all? Do you just search in genereal for Ford Escorts or specify the RS marque?

Search rs1600 in the extra boxes...

Another on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...538063101&rd=1

Very expensive buy it now price, butchered sunroof in a non custom (doh!), lots of "bling" items under bonnet.

Don't think it's a 5k'er....
