Sounds like EGR valve

What are the diagnostics scanner you have? There is one called f super which is excellent at reading the codes. It was able to see a code that Bluefin or my mechanics snap on scanner couldn't see.

Get it scanned with a Ford specific scanner.
It may not show any codes after restarting the engine, so the best method is to read the codes when the glow light is flashing.

the scanner is an autel it was a cheap purchase of ebay . as the light is not flashing all the time it seems to be an itermittent fault , so getting it to do it with the code reader plugged in may be a hit and miss affair. A trip to the main dealer might be on the cards.

In this case driving around with the Autel is a waste of time.
With this scanner you can only see codes when the MIL is on.
The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) is the yellow light with the engine block.

Check the EGR to Intercooler boost hose for splits.

You can get the fault codes up on the dash itself, cant remember the procedure off hand, but worth a try.

Don't think that will show it. Only thing showed mine was f super tho im sure ford could see them with that software tho F super can code injectors too and for £16 is a fraction of the cost of going near a dealer for even a scan.

Hi mate. I've got an 04 plate 2.0 TDCI. 2 year ago I had the problem of the Glow Plug light flashing and then the engine dying a minute later. Took it to local Diesel Specialist and they put it on their Delphi Rig. To cut a long story short, I had the Fuel System replaced (£1600!). It was fine for 18 months and then Lo and behold, the same thing started to happen again. My car has always been regularly serviced (including Fuel Filter, change!!)
Diesel specialist reckons it is possibly Inlet Metering valve which is an ancilliary of the Fuel Pump or Injector #4. I have always had Fords, but this has really put me off Ford Diesels. Looking at the web, I am far from being alone in having these issues. Friends have had similar issues, and have spent a fortune going to local garages who do not have the equipment to test the system fully and as has been said, all you sometimes get on a code reader is Fuel Pressure Low/High, which could be anything in a Common Rail injector system. Good Luck.
