Default Vic test on a non running car?

As above car was written off but I was never told drove it for 4 years like it!

Tryed to change my address on logbook and apparently it needs a Vic test but in that's time I changed the engine and it's not running

If they only want to check the ID why do they need to have it running and being road legal?

I just want my name on the flippin log book!!!!

Where does it say it has to be running and legal?? VIC is about vehicle identity, not condition or roadworthyness.

From what i can remember they do need to be running, its been a good 4 years since i have done a vic test though.

They want to see the car has had some form of repair and is working to ensure the id will not be changed after the vic test,
IE, it would be no good if someone bought a written off car, and took it straight for a vic test not running and still fully damaged, they could then pass the vic test as the ID was ok, take the car away and ring it making the test pointless.

So it was always a case that the majority of the repair had to have been done so there was an invetment into the car cutting this risk of it having an id change after the test.

some cars we saw for vic tests we written off due to flood damaged engines etc, so this was why they had to be running, as the investment was in the engine.

The car will be driven on the Vosa site to a secure location as the vic test is secret squirrel.

I imagine the checks are hardly groundbreaking or using classified military technology

I did laugh when I read that myself! I don't know where James took his cars but in Birmingham it's done at the same place as where they carry out tests on trucks and the doors are wide open!

Was the same in Leighton buzzard big, big open hanger doors wide open the Vosa man asked me to come in and open the boot because the handle didn't work that well, I didn't have to walk far because I was standing at the door waiting.

I used to work for Vosa and was a Vic tester among other things.
The actual test and testing method is not supposed to be seen if you go by the book.
We used to take them into our SVA building which was cloaed to the public.

It was always made clear that exactly what was tested and how should never be public knowledge, and in order to complete the Vic tests you have to sign official secrets act documentation to enforce this. Thats the main reason im reluctant to give out too much information about the testing procedure.

The moment the test is public, and people know what is tested and how, means that people will start to work around it and it looses its value. Thats the reason that Vosa dont want the test public knowledge, so people dont ever really know how or what they check and test.

My cat c focus estate had light blue paint dots here and there... Presume they check the dots are in known places...
When it went in the test centre, it was back out in 5-10 mins...

that's true also.
i had my xr2 vic checked, it had to have an mot, then vic tested before sorting a tax disc out.
i was hoping to be just able to trailer it down, but must pass mot and so needed to be running. i was even mapping certain load sites in the mot station and on he way down to the vosa centre.
