I go with a pal who is a trader to auctions and watch him buy and sell, some you win and some you lose on

sounds like this could be the way to get rid of it.

Any recommendations of auction centre's Essex way other than Manheim.

guessing charges are pretty similar for them all, Manheim I belive is 10% of the sale price, + a small entry fee

I've sold a couple near me deptford auction and yeh I'd recommend having an idea of what you would like as you can set a reserve like eBay, look at similar sales of your car high end and low end and keep an average price of what to expect

you have gold membership so why not try on here first. cheap car could sell easily. even if you got the same price as auction you'd save entry and 10% fee and could be less hassle. stipulate test drives will be conducted by you.

stipulating test drives only be me is fine, but on the other foot, i wouldn't buy a car without test driving it myself if it was high value from an unknown seller

have put it on here and another forum, but other than that cant face ebay / autotrader as theres too many cunts out there, and cant really afford to risk it again

have you tried we buy any car etc?
i know a lot of their stock go's to auction so prob not the best deal
but i've seen them hit out with a couple of not bad values so worth a try
but i must admit 90% of the values they give are very poor
but worth 5 mins to stick the details in and see what it says

Yep webuyanycar online offer ain't for off what I want privately!

Will try and get it down there soon, but full well expect them to start knocking me big time with crap offers,

Hence the auction route as its cutting out them , as I expect that's what they will do anyways

Entry fee is £45 + vat and Manheim's commission is 8% of the selling price, again plus vat....

All of webuyanycar.com's stuff goes to auction ! They are now owned by BCA (British Car Auctions) - they're just another middle man ! All they do is try and kick you in the nuts for your car and then enter into a proper auction and have a few hundred quid or more on top profit ! Worth a check tho' like you say, will only take a few mins and they have been known to have their prices wrong and pay out more than they'll get at the other end !

They will pay you quickly tho to be fair to them...... but watch for charges (for them to transfer the money to your account) and other stuff like that !

You get what you pay for though !
Manheims buyer base is far bigger - and we have the best 'older car' (5yrs+) auction in the country at Colchester. Period.

So for example, say it sold at 10k, would the fees be £800 + vat so £960 + the £54 entry fee.

Yep, that's the one............... but if you've got a car worth that sort of money or more, always have a chat with the manager at point of entry and 9/10 times they'll agree a deal with you.

It's a good time to sell at the moment - there are very fews cars around so prices are definitely up, and have been for the last couple of months really.

Anyone who wants to buy or sell at Manheim, whether a proper trader or not, should get themselves an account - costs £70 odd quid to set up and a bit of paperwork but will save you BUNDLES when buying or selling !

To sell a £10k car as a 'private' is as above but with a trade account, same car would cost less than £500 in fees...

Interesting, would that work as the logbook is in my name?

And the 10k was just an easy maths figure, I'd be looking at more like 7 to 8k really

The account would have to be in your name but it doesn't matter what name the logbook is in

i my experience of going to auctions, i'd always be wary of a car entered for auction by a private individual.

buyers/ traders will automatcialy think there is something wrong with it.

but if you dont want to sell privately, then there isnt alot of choice. How about asking a friend to sell it for you and give them £100 for there troubles?

Doesn't stop them robbing the car off a mate, does it. Just not worth the risk
