I had a 2011 transit that I wanted to sell so I got a mate who works at a garage to service it for me, he did it on a sat morning and stamped the service book,
I then sold it to a guy who then sold it on to a trader he then sold it on again,
Got a call the other day to tell me that the van had developed a fault with the wiring and it was at a local ford dealers, for some reason they questioned the service history and called the name on the stamp but they could not find it on their system, as my mate had done it as a pj!.
So ford are refusing to fix the fault on the warranty and now the dealers are after me for forging the service history even though it had been serviced,

Question is am I fucked or is there a way out without dropping my mate in the shit!!!!!

did he do it cash and then stamp it without telling the dealership? If so you're prob fucked and rightly so, it's been passed off with a fraudulent service history - I'd be well pissed if I bought a vehicle with what seemed to be a reassuring factory service history that turned out to have been faked.

its not really been faked as its been done on ford premises by a ford tech its just theyre pissed off because they didnt get their cut.
unfortunately on a legal basis they probably wont see it that way.
whether that bears any point in the fault its developed or not i dont know and since everyone puts more effort into trying to pass the buck than honouring their side of a deal theyll be looking to pass that buck on to you.
edit...i just noticed the bit about dropping your mate in it....what can the outcome be? if you told them to go fuck themselves what couyld they do ? or you could go down the route of demanding they did it, they stamped the book (as you obviously dont have a stamp)and the faults at their end with their dodgy record keeping?

As above, guessing it was a cashy job. Your mate is in the wrong for putting a stamp in the book as Ford hasn't serviced it if he was paid cash.

I would say it's you or him. You could claim you 'thought' it was properly booked in and got it back with a dealer stamp but then i would guess they will go for the dealer and the dealer will sack your mate.

When he said he had stamped the book the thought never even entered my mind because he had actually serviced it and not just stamped it, wasn't out to deceive any one, the guy I sold it to knew it had been serviced as he could see the new fuel filter and othe Bits had been done and as I say the thought never entered my mind as I had it in the day before I sold it to have some warranty work done on it my self and nothing was said.

Thing is, did you genuinely think that it has been done as an on the books job and paid accordingly??

If so they your mate has tucked you up and pocketed the cash. Did he buy the service parts or did he just help himself from stock?

If it was a cashy job on the quiet you'd have to be pretty naive to think it was going to be recorded on the system.

I doubt the garage can do much as you can claim as far as you knew it had been serviced by the main dealer all above board, but they can I would guess get you mate in the shite, especially if he hasn't bought the parts to do it.

I wouldn't be too happy to buy a motor with full dealer history only to find out the main dealers had no record of it and it has been done cashy cash buy someone who worked at a dealer. You pay for the dealer history so that a) you know it has been done, and done correctly and b) so that if something does goes wrong, you have more chance of the dealers sorting it or offering good will.

I agree but what's he supposed to do? What would you do in a situation like this? How does he get round the fact that the dealers are chasing him?
Pay the blokes bill? Go to court?
If it was a genuine "I thought it was legit" thing let your mate take the flack! You weren't to know!!!

whoever called the op obviously knows he was the registered keeper at the time of the service, regardless of who now owns it he had it at the time the offence was committed.

Reading your post again, you sold it on to someone who then traded it in? it may have been written in the book it was serviced when you had it, but they can't prove you did it. That could have been written in at any time by anyone after you sold it. Not saying that is fair but I can't see that they can prove who stamped that book and when.

Who is chasing you, the garage it got traded in at at the garage that the stamp is from?

Current block exemption laws currently state that any garage can service a car / van so long as o e spec / matching quality parts are used. They don't even have to have a ford stamp I the book or be ford parts. So the dealer is being a bit out of order. Contact the owner, tell him to take the van to another ford dealer or franchise and say nothing. He has just got some jobs worth c@&Ł on the case. Dealers only bill ford for the warranty work any way!

the last stamp was OBVIOUSLY done after you sold the van on, by 1 of the OTHER keepers who had it in between making a profit on it, its changed hands to many times for anybody to prove who done what or when it was done

if your mate serviced it on their premises but in his own time as a private "cash in hand" job then he shouldn't have used the dealer stamp. If its not gone through the books it's effectively not been serviced at that garage. This isn't considered a main dealer service though it's just like going to a back street garage.

If he's put it through as a staff/friends and family discounted job then it should have gone through the system and they should be able to trace it.

Anyway, how are they going to trace any of this back to your mate? How are they even going to prove you had anything to do with it. You may have owned the car at the time but who's to say the book hasn't been doctored since then.

Tell them it's not your problem. There's no need to involve your mate at all. If you mention his name he will be in the shit big time.

Then they can do piss all really, it has changed hands a few times and the book could have been stamped at any time by anyone.

You can't remember if and or when you had it serviced and can't be of any more help than that.

It is why it is always worth checking service stamps with dealers to make sure a car has been serviced by them as they are often total b*llocks.

Yep keep schtum,you had it serviced through a guy you used to work with,the old parts were shown to you and the van drove perfectly afterwards,the book was stamped by whoever did the service,your not sure who that was as of course the guy that recommended him your no longer in contact with.
You know the van was serviced correctly and the reason you did this was because you've been caught out before with the work not actually being done and being charged for it hence you insisted the old parts were shown.
End of story.
Garage can't chase you for fuck all,ludicrous.
