Default Mk2 focus RS lack of power

Hi all, firstly I'm new here.
I own a frozen white focus RS mk2 60 reg, it's completely standard and I'm havin some issues. It's hard to describe but basically the car feels weird, if I put my foot down in first gear it feels like there is no turbo, if I put my foot down in second it will occasionally feel very flat and seems that there is no boost till about 4000 rpm and others times it boosts fairly well, but never feels powerfull even though its still quick. The boost gauge is showing boost but it does not seem to go or sound like it should. I have not had it long so can't compare it, I get no wheels trying to spin or the front banging like my st did, so I'm struggling to get my head round it and feel very disappointed. Please help

What does it read on the boost gauge?

If it only goes up to about a 1/4 then spikes a little higher when you let off the throttle, I'd say that it's more than likely a dodgy boost control solenoid which seems to be quite a common thing.

That's the first thing I would try anyway.

Hi thanks for the reply, boost gauge shows 3/4 but it almost seems that it' lags before it boosts. It boosts and holds boost when it does but still does not feel right.

If people with a standard RS put there foot down in second would u expect to get the horrible banging and struggling for grip or not

I'd still be tempted to try a boost solenoid on it as they're not telephone numbers to buy.

Sods law with the warranty though!!

Ok thanks,I will try one. If you accelerate quickly in them should they boost up quickly or do they have a bit of lag.
And yes typical about the warranty but I really would not want ford monkeys my way working on it anyway.

Yes ill give them a call, and I have heard about the boost solenoed playing up but mine seems to make full boost and hold it but takes along time to make it ( very lagy ) but not all the time and when you floor it seems to accelerate twice the second being when it boosts.

I would of thought if it was any kind of intake leak, the ECU would detect it (lean mixture) and put the management light on as they seem very sensitive to them. My ST split a small hose under the inlet manifold last night and dropped boost to a 1/4 on the gauge and put the light on.

Thanks for all the answers, I am going to have to get it on the ramp and have a bloody good look round it and change the boost valve.
Has anybody had problems with the symposer valve as this is also something I think could cause a leak.
Really want to sort it as I do want to tune it but must fix this first, if I do find the problem ill post it up, thanks

Its a standard car so its never going to feel quick. Plus they put power down well and probably run reduced boost in first.

I'd get it on a fault code machine, but it might just be the way these cars are?

Nothing shows up on a diagnostic check, nor does any warning lamps light up, no codes. I'm thinking this may just be me and I'm expecting it to be quicker than it is. I would never take any of my vehicles back to main stealers as they don't have a clue. I've been in the trade 10 yrs and been about cars all my life.

Thank you for your reply. I don't refer to all main stealers but my ford garage here don't have a lot of luck, 2 fords in the family had gone back to them for various warranty work and came out with even more faults.
