Any recommendations for rain repellent for my rear screen? I miss having a rear wiper What's a good one that doesn't just get removed when the car's next washed?

Also, is it worth putting it on the front screen, or will it just wear off with the wipers?

Grant - never heard of it before. Where can it be bought? Halfords type places, or more speciality?

I know of Rain X but was under the impression that while it does work, it's pretty weak stuff when it comes to longevity; it wears off quite quickly, especially with pressure washing. I generally get the car washed by the local hand wash place once a month / 6 weeks or so - would I need to reapply Rain X after everytime?

But apparently, you're not supposed to use it on glass, as it leaves a residue/hazing? Shame, cos it looks AWESOME

Dunno how it would fair against the local car wash places that use high concentrate de-greaser shampoo?
I was hand washing my car with a mild shampoo and it lasted a couple months at least.

There's a few options mate...

Gtechniq G1 or G4 I think it is. Lasts the longest. Great protection. Some people have difficulty in applying and removing. Screen needs to be 101% clean - no other polishes or products can be on the screen. Product needs to bond directly onto the screen surface otherwise the results won't last long.

Any normal car wax - works great. Easy solution. Any of the proper car waxes work fine on glass - AG HD wax, dodo juice etc. repels water well. Lasts a fair while but that's dependant on what wax you use.

Rain x - my personal favourite. Easy to apply, easy to wipe off. Lasts around 1-2 months if not a tad longer. People don't really rate it highly and suggests is comes off with frequent wiper use. The more you use it the better the results. Water runs off my screen at 25mph and don't need to use wipers above that speed. I found the trick to using it is put the product on all windows, let it dry for about 10-15mins, put another layer on top of the initial layer. Leave for 5mins. Wipe off. One bottle will last you ages. I can probably do 2 cars coated around 30 times each with the above method

That depends...does it leave white crap on your bodywork after using it

In all the consumer reviews by the magazines its the Mer stuff that wins out best value/budget value time after time due to the sheer quantity you get in a pack compared to the competitors.

Sure it doesnt last quite as long as rain x but for the same money you get like 5 times as much.

I use Dodo supernatural glass sealant and its awesome lasted 8 months on both my mondeo's one used every day 600miles a week!

Even if you did have to the wipers the screen was still so much more clearer than without the glass sealant

Gtechniq G5. Mildly difficult to apply,and relatively expensive, but last for up to 2 years and works better than anything

 

I've used rain x in the past. Although very good I find it leaves a slight haze on the screen and causes the wipers to jump across the screen.

 

You've not done it correctly then.

I have rain x on my dailys both have same wipers on for last 2 years, so they're not new. I last did them a month ago and the bead great still. The trick is to wash your car with a quality wax free shampoo

 

Gtechnique would be my choice. At 70 in pouring rain no wipers needed.

 

I machine polish the glass and use a sealant rather than a wax. Do it to all my windows and it lasts months.

 

Cool ill give that a try as ive just looked and the Meguires stuff i had has wax in it
