Default Chasis numbers whats the score??

My series 1 floor pan is rotten to the core and will be replaced but what happens with the chasis numbers?? If the number (which is also rusty and just about readable) is cut away what then?? I don't want to delvalue my car but then I don't want rust city either can it be restamped or something?? but would that require an inspection? I have the vin plate etc but the engine number won't be there as its a ZVH or is it the head that has the number in which case it may still be the same (doubt it thou)
Any help guys????

I spoke to DVLA who didn't know jack and passed me onto VOSA. VOSA said i can re-stamp the shell myself.. but that sounds too easy/dodgy?
So can I re-stamp the shell myself and take loads of pics of the present rusty stamp? Do the DVLA have to inspect the present stamp?
How would I get the shell re-stamped?? Can anyone recommend anyone to do the work?
Did you re-stamp your shell Steve?
