replacment seal kit on sierra cosworth rear calipers?!

Default replacment seal kit on sierra cosworth rear calipers?!

Help needed lads!

My brakes had got really poor...so I ended up taking them all off the car to get the bleed nipples out, then decided to refurb them a bit.
So I ordered a seal kit from bigred. Used my compressor to get the pistons out, made the mistake of stripping the bit underneath the piston (I thought there must be more orings to change in there) and had a right tussle to get the valve spring back down and circlip on lol

Anyway, I am now struggling greatly to get the pistons back in?!!!

They seem to be threaded (LH) - Im guessing this is for the handbrake mechanism.

Is there a guide on 2wd cossie rear caliper seal replacement or can anyone advise how to get the bloody things back together. Going to have round two a bit later this avo!

I've a picture of how the go back together at work in a Granada manual I can post on Monday night! I did mine full strip and rebuild and it was easy also best way to get that circlip back in is with a socket and g clamp I found

is there an o ring underneath the spring assembly then? I didnt fancy stripping the bottom bit out as I was hoping to get them done last night.

I know how they go back together, but whats the best way to get the piston in? Do i just wind it down the spring and fit the dust seal afterwards?

I'm not using a rewind tool mate, because the calipers are off the car so no pressure behind them!
I am going to have a crack now, hopefully it will become obvious as Im doing it. From reading around it seems to remove the handbrake mech to change the o ring, I remove the gubbins from the back of the piston, remove circlip, again, and tap the whole lot from the back, and it should come out of the bore??!!! Will update

I done mine a long time ago now but once the middle is all apart there's a small bit that pushes the piston out when you pull the hand brake that comes out then the lever that the cable hooks over lifts out.

Rebuilding the calipers is easy enough it's just a royal pain in the bollocks if you don't have the right tools and a press for the spring

I rebuilt mine last year and had to use a tool to get the pistons back as they wouldn't wind by hand they were tight as fuck

I found it easy and didnt use any specials tools and as I said above compressing the spring is a piece of piss with a small socket and a g clamp

Cheers mate. I've sorted the seals but am having trouble getting the dust seal back in place?!
ajamesc - How do you get the dust seal back? I can wind the caliper in and fit the dust seal after but I can only get the lip in about 75% of the way round the piston as I cant get to the hidden bit with my screwdriver to seat it.
the other method I had read is to use the compressor to try and blow the pre seated seal over the piston skirt, and then wind the piston in with the tool.
No matter what I do the seal blows out of the bore before I can get it around the piston

Whats the best way chaps?

You must have really weak springs then as mine were some serious poundage for the size, the only successful way was to get it on the hydraulic press and fit the circlip whilst on there - thats the general way - was yours not tight when you removed the circlip originally? mine are fitted to the car and work awesome.

I put the complete seal in first then when the piston lowers in to the bore it sit's in the top recess in the piston

Big g clamp! And the hand brake works well so springs must be all good!
I'm sure there's a ford special tool that's a hand tool anyway so they can't be that strong from new! As for hydraulic press mate you don't even need one of them to do the spring on a 40 ton trailer spring brake lol

I used a valve spring compressor and socket and it had no problem compressing it luckily.
Indeed, I have tried seating the seal first and pulling it round the piston skirt but its putting up a good fight
Will have to get all Chuck Norris on it shortly!

Well, a bit more thought and they went on in 5 minutes. Now to get them back on the car and test these yellow stuff pads out!!
