Spoke to someone yesterday who said that he knows of a Series 1 for sale that has been converted so it now runs a Series 2 Turbo because of it being oil-cooled and not water-cooled or something like that? (correct me if i'm wrong please! )

But if this is true, what exactly is the advantage?

Are you looking for a modified example Dan? A thing to remember when it comes to S1's is that the value tends to increase on non-modified versions. Cars that are basically standard are going to be worth more in the long run than modified versions.

As the numbers fall on these a lot of car collectors are going to be paying big bucks for the unmolested examples - Mikey turned down 10K for his 20K miler mint totally standard S1 a few days ago!!

I do appreciate that the restored ones that are full of chrome and mods etc may pull the money at the moment, but as time goes on, and the numbers get smaller and smaller the value is going to be in factory standard.

Depends on what your initial investment is going to be, and what you intend to do with the car in the long run.

Happy days if you're serious about buying one of these beauties though!

Hi mate, hows things?

Defo serious about buying one now, looked at a couple about 18 months to 2 years ago and they were real dogs for stupid money which I guess put me off buying one for abit, but now am deadly serious and don't wanna miss out on one again!

Not really worried if its got a few mods done to it, or if its a sensible price then I don't mind it being near enough or totally standard, I won't be going mad with it but just want something with abit of class and pedigree that can hold its own and have always loved the Series 1's for that reason!

The one I mentioned Kieron is horribly modified, seen a pic of it at my local RS Breakers yard and its shit, its been re-sprayed in a pearlescent white and has got dodgy tiger stripes up the sides of it!

As I said not interested in the slightest of the one mentioned above but was confused as to why (if he has ) he's changed the turbo to a Series 2 one, i.e. Whats the benefit!?

Hey Dan.

Ford made some alterations to the S2 turbo, to aid cooling (at the expense of looks, value, street presence and desirability) but I don't think it makes much difference to the functionality of the car to be honest!

It's a difficult task tracking down a decent one isn't it!

Keep looking, here and at the RSOC website. One will come up at the right price soon.

What's your max budget?

Max budget could probably go up to about 3.5k to be fair within the next couple of months if the right 'one' comes up

I'll have a look at that ebay one now mate, always been abit wary (sp) of ebay though

It looks nice - had the paint done etc. I guess you could put the rest of your budget towards a new interior - or re-doing the interior.

Definately one to see, but a long way from you. Is there anybody local who could take a look on your behalf.

Ask the seller for some more info and some more pics. Get the reg no/vin no if you can....

Think the Reg is B565 RWD mate Quite like the clear indicators on the front, but don't like the smoked rear lights at all!

Not really anyone up that way that I could trust to go and look mate, I reckon the guy I know up there knows as much about cars as I do about pole dancing!

Hmmm, you can get the dash's welded, but easier to pick up a second hander sometime along the road....

All comes down to money I guess, cars at that price are going to need jobs doing. It's either pay now or pay later really....
